and when i said practically starved. I was giving kibble at night. He won't eat it. and i cracked by giving him kibble during the day but he hardly eats it. He doesn't like anything and yes he is caged with maru but he won't eat the kibble anymore. i keep raw in the cage when i go to bed usually muscle meats for if he wants snacks. i kind of always keep muscle meats available for him and then give him 2 good bone in and organ meals a day

Are you sure he's 3 months? It's a PITA to load pics from the phone I know, but is there any way you could upload some pics of him (general body pics) and a closeup of his front canines? I use the Photobucket App to upload pics, then copy the IMG code and paste into my post. Big pain in the rear but it works. Could he have a dental or jaw issue making it difficult for him to eat? That is not uncommon in poorly bred mill ferrets sadly. What is now color/pattern? I would definitely be getting him into the vet as soon as you possibly can, I don't like that he isn't wanting to eat anything. I'm also worried that he is caged with Maru for a couple of reasons...one, if he is sick now Maru has been exposed. There's no helping that at this point as he is already exposed, it's a risk you always take if you don't quarantine. Quarantine is always recommended if possible but some just don't or can't do it - I didn't quarantine Kenai when I brought him home. The other concern is kibble and raw being available together. Eating the two close together can cause tummy upset and bacterial overgrowth. Unless you are home and watching them all day it would be impossible to guarantee Maru isn't eating some of the kibble. :/ Is there any way you can perhaps keep Shippo elsewhere temporarily until they are on the same page diet wise? Many people will set up a cozy bed and litter box and some toys in their bathroom - or even bathtub. It would only be temporary and they could still play out together when you are home. For Maru, the outline looks good. It would be helpful to see specifics though e.g. "Monday am chicken wings, Mon PM chicken liver and rabbit legs" - specific meats will be needed for your menu to graduate at the end so now is a good time to start practicing. If it helps, write down each meal when you feed it, and post what he got at the end of the week. What proteins is he getting? Glad you found a good meat source! For Shippo - definitely vet ASAP. In the meanwhile soak the kibble in warm water for a few min (or you will destroy your blender). Once it's nice and soft, add some more warm water and blend it up to a nice soup/gravy texture. Try finger feeding him some of that. Let me know how he takes to that. Do you know what the pet store was feeding him and if he was eating there?

I'm sure he's 3 months! He's not sick. His teeth look great. I had him into the vet already today. Ferret specialist .... he pretty much said he's just being picky, he's fine. Got them their flea meds. Maybe I got the wrong Marshalls brand. He ate plenty today an entire bowl. Couldn't get him to try any new treats.

okay so the larger one is Maru. The little one...which you can't tell well in the picture but he is SILVER. he's got very pretty coloring. Maru was born feb 14th this year and Shippo was born march 27th according to my things. also Maru was MUCH smaller than shippo is when we got him.

Also I switched jobs. I started dog grooming again instead of managing the shop I was at. So I'm home a little more often. Harder work - more pay home more. It works! plus i get to spend more time with my little furrets

Glad to hear the vet visit went well. Shippo's a cutie - glad he ate more today. Hard to tell from pic but it doesn't look like he's too thin, so that's good. He is a pretty color - he may keep it, but odds are he will roan out as he gets older and may eventually become a DEW. Ferrets are fickle creatures - you never know what their next coat change will bring. And congrats on the job - more pay and home more sounds pretty good to me! On to business... 1.) Did you make kibble soup? If so how did Shippo take it? 2.) Can you separate them for a while? (see my prev post RE bathroom suggestion). We need to figure something out of you could be looking at some big time tummy issues. It will only be temporary until Shippo will take raw soup. 3.) What proteins is Maru eating? 4.) You mentioned not having a good way to weigh Shippo, but you should have a scale for making raw soup. What equipment do you have to measure out soupie ingredients? 5.) Speaking of - what was Shippo's weight at the vet today?

I don't remember them telling me the weight for him or Maru. =l hmm. maybe its on the papers i'll check in the morning. I can leave shippo in the cage and Maru out. Maru is litter trained and the only reason we put him in the cage is my cats like to come sleep in bed with me and..... well, they're afraid of the ferrets so.. (our bedroom is completely ferret proofed. ) nothing for him to mess in or cords to chew. so that should be fine at night. thats the only time theyre in the cage anyway if i'm not home. and Maru will be fine around the room with me at work. I cant do any other rooms because of the cats. They gave up on the bedroom but if i keep any more doors closed they'll drive me nuts trying to get in.
I have not made soup. I read a post on how to make it so I will. I don't have any sort of scale but i have measuring cups and stuff... normal cookware. =l I'll work on all of this tomorrow.

In the meanwhile I would suggest cutting the meat into similar sized pieces. So say if you have chicken hearts, cut some chicken breast or thigh meat into chunks about the same size as the chicken hearts, and do the same with the liver. Then you can count out chunks to measure. If you cut the meats all to similar sized chunks then you can use 8 pieces of boneless chicken meat, 1 piece of heart, 1 piece of liver, and 1/2-3/4tsp powdered eggshell (or bonemeal). Stick it in the blender with some water and blend to a nice even consistency. On Soup: holisticferretforum.com/natural-diet/raw-diet-the-meat-of-the-site/raw-soup-recipe/Do what I described above and remove the kibble for about 2-3 hours (preferably 3), then work on dabbing the raw soupies on his nose until he will lick it off willingly. Let us know how it goes. Keep them separated for now until we get Shippo on raw soup; I don't want your babies to have to deal with any tummy issues. Please tell me what proteins Maru is eating.

Chicken, beef. I haven't tried giving him turkey yet. He's not super excited about the beef but loves chicken. I haven't gotten my hands on lamb

Chicken, beef. I haven't tried giving him turkey yet. He's not super excited about the beef but loves chicken. I haven't gotten my hands on lamb Ok we need to get some other proteins in there - Pork should be pretty easy to find and is pretty mild tasting. It is absolutely vital that they have a variety of different proteins - the more the better but 3 is the bare minimum. And he needs more than just chicken for his bone-in meals. Check out Asian and Halal markets in your area - they often have really good meat variety. It's normal for them to take longer to adjust to beef as it is more strongly flavored. Pretty much any meet can be fed - Pork, lamb, rabbit, turkey, duck, goat, bison, fish, frog, venison, etc. We can work with you on getting him to accept other proteins, so see what you can find.
