Will he take any kind of oil? With Emily, her meds are extremely bitter, so I follow them up with about .6 of salmon oil in another syringe. I have to hold her head still(can't scruff her) and give the meds, then immediately follow up with the oil. You can also sandwich pred. Pull up .1 of oil, pred, then another .1 or .2 so he gets the good stuff, nasty stuff, then good stuff again.

I'll try those recommendations for the syringe to see if it helps. I'd never thought about putting his oil in there as well or letting him try to play with one.
Last night was a good night. He was up a lot in short bursts to eat and walk around for a few. He even was a little excitable though no serious playing, but more than recently.
We took him into the back yard this morning because he has always been interested in sniffing around out there and as a bonus he is too slow to run away even if he gets excited about something. He did well walking around for about five minutes and then came back inside. It was good to see him up and about.
We leave for the vet appointment in a bit. Hopefully we get some good news and have a better plan of action.
Thank you all for the support and advice.

I hope using the oil helps. While it doesn't actively change the flavour for Emily, it does help wash the bitter taste out for her.

you can also try burrito wrapping him for his meds. wrap tightly, tuck his bottom between your arm and side, and hold his head still with your hand. The other hand is free to syringe the meds.

Got some interesting (hopefully good) news today from the vet. The tissue stain results had come back and Watson was negative for "B cell" and almost totally negative on "T cell" lymphoma in his tissues. Compared to the control sample they had they could see what could be described as remnants of "T cell" but the content of it was so low the lab doesn't think he actually has lymphoma!
They said it looks more like a "round cell sarcoma" which (from what I can find online) seems to be closer to the Mast Cell Tumor family, and one of the sites I found info on said that if surgery cleaned out the tumor area well enough that may be all she wrote for the cancer.
The vet sent the results to the oncologist, and they want to review the findings, and possibly talk to the lab to get some more info. As of right now he has to stay on the daily .2 Pred, and will continue the chemo treatment for the time being. We aren't totally out of the woods yet, but today gave us a glimmer of hope that the cancer is already in remission to the point that it isn't in his system any more, or that it is at least not lymphoma and is something he can beat more easily than cancer.

That sounds like amazing news! I've been reading through your thread about Watson and I am amazed with everything you're doing for him. I pray that all the findings are good and that Watson will start to perk up and stay in good health.

Sherry, thank you for the "sandwich" idea for meds. It has worked very well the last two days. He tastes the oil and relaxes for just long enough to get through the bitter stuff and then have more oil. He seems to flail about a lot less as well.

unclejoe - he has been on chemo meds for 2 cycles. He got one his first Wednesday we got up to Phoenix, and he got his med last wed when we had a rough night of it because of how he reacted.

Today is his first scheduled day for Lumostine. We still haven't heard from the oncologist about the lab results. I know they are busy, but I'm a bit frustrated about it. If this is Round Cell Sarcoma and not Lymphoma, Watson doesn't need to be on the chemotherapy medication. After last Wednesday night, if we don't have to put him through this, I really don't want to.
In another note of irritation, I called the other vet in our area that has ferrets listed on their website to see if they would do his blood draw when needed and do his Sub Q injection in June to save us the long drive. They said they didn't feel comfortable doing a blood draw, and said it wasn't legal for them to give medication they didn't prescribe themselves. So incredibly frustrating!
I'm calling the oncologist this morning when they open to get complete clarification as to why Watson needs to continue chemotherapy if his tissue tests came back saying it wasn't believed to be lymphoma. Will give an update when I have one.
