My poor little guy is so itchy. We have found a few fleas on him so we treated him and cleaned his bedding. He is now flea free. But, he is still so itchy and is scratching himself raw on his neck and shoulders. He is actually starting to lose a little bit of fur because of the scratching. What could be happening and how can I help him?

It can take awhile for the flea bites to go away. You can give some children's strength benedryl to help with the itching. Oatmeal bath helps too.
Also, how hold is your ferret? If over a year old might have checked out for adrenal. I notice the disease showing up in younger ferrets. Something to consider.

How much Benadryl would I give him? Will it make him sick?

Some flea treatments can be drying to the skin, some extra salmon oil might help.

Was not suggesting your ferret had adrenal for using aveeno, just that it helped severe itching in her adrenal boy. I think that is kind of young for adrenal. It is good for bug bites, rashes, excema, and poison ivy. As said by others, maybe it is just from fleabites and treatment.
One natural thing you can do that may help prevent adrenal--not saying it will----but keep ferret in dark when the sun goes down.

Gosh, I wished I could help. You may need to go the vet. While the problem may have been related to fleas--- other things you can do for your ferret is to use unscented washing detergents, no scented candles.
What treatment did you use for the fleas?
I wonder if vets give a few doses of prednisone for itching. That's what docs give for posion ivy.
