I have three ferrets: Lock, Shock (also known as Snoot), and Barrel. All three were adopted from people who did not want them anymore. Lock and Barrel were adopted together-- I haven't had them long, but long enough to love them a lot.
They were overall healthy (Lock was a little under weight and his tail was a little patchy when we first got him) other then those minor things he was a happy boy and we took care of his tail. I check on them today and Barrel comes to greet me at the door-- and his eyes are closed. They didnt really have crustys but they were stuck closed. I used a little bit of water, cleaned them up and he was fine and has been ever since then.
Then I look at Lock-- my happy go lucky always bouncing around boy and he is just standing there, hasnt greeted me, looks a little off. His eyes were a liiiiiittle weird but nothing out of the ordinary for when my crew wake up. Then I pick him up and he seems a little lighter? So i start panicking. I took him out of the cage and checked him out. His breathing was slower than normal, he had some stuff in his nose (not crust, but kind of like a stuffy nose) and hes got a light pink rash on his back between his shoulders maybe an inch long. He seemed a little lethargic at first but i got him to drink plenty of water and I made him some duck soup which hes been eating for the last few hours off and on between naps. He has definitely perked up a lot but he isnt exactly normal "Lock" yet.
I'm not gonna lie to you guys, i'm one paranoid person when it comes to my babies and i've been terrified that this is some how, some way distemper. But how!?!? Does it sound like distemper to anyone else? Between Lock and Barrels eyes i'm terrified. Snoot seems fine, chunky, and happy as ever, and Barrel isnt too far off, I just dont know what to do. It's midnight where i'm at and I only know of one vet in my area (almost 45 mins away) that takes on ferrets and they aren't 24/7.
Ages:
Snoot - I was told was roughly a year by the man who gave him to me, but I've had ferrets in the past (and i'm not an idiot) he was closer to five months old when I got him.
Lock - They claimed he was about a year old when I got him, then said he was three when I went to leave with him.
Barrel - About the same age as Lock give or take a few months.
