Celene mentioned Sudocrem containing fragrance at one stage and I wanted to get a confirmation with the manufacturer. Sooooo..... I emailed them and have received a reply. Actavis, Manufacturer of Sudocrem, has confirmed VIA email with me that Sudocrem Antiseptic Healing Cream does contain lavender fragrance and that they do not manufacture a fragrance free formulation of this product. Sudocrem was often recommended for various things, skin conditions, rashes etc. I even used it for Beavis when I brought him home for the bite scab and it helped quite well. However using a product that contains added fragrance may be risky, It is on the same level as EO. That being said, you could use it... Just like EO's in Shampoo, small amounts may seem harmless, But the risks are there. There is bound to be an alternative to this product, but remember to always seek the opinion of a vet before applying anything to your ferret. Be cautious and check ingredients. ----- I received another email in regards to my question about the possible formula changes. "Thank you for your reply. I can confirm that Lavender has been part of Sudocrem Antiseptic Healing Cream since its inception. Sudocrem Antiseptic Healing Cream has been on the market for 80 years with its current formula."

The ingredients on my tub say "lavender oil" so I think it might actually be an EO. I wouldn't be nearly as worried about it except that it's often used for bite training and I really do not want any of my ferrets ingesting EOs (as opposed to sitting on their scruffs). I'm also about 95% sure that this is a new formula change so that if you have an older tub WITHOUT purple writing on it you may be safe (check the ingredients) and don't lose it! Thanks @machan for looking into this

That is good to know since it is often used. I wonder what a good replacement would be.

Using it in any form on a ferret would mean that it gets into their body in some way. Even through the skin. ;n; It probably won't cause long term problems in small amounts like for a rash here and there. Doesn't make it healthy though since fragrances are in it and every ferret is different so who's to say one ferret will or won't react to a small little bit on their skin. So many risks. Some things list it as lavender perfume. It concerns me that they never mention if its simply synthetic fragrance (which most likely yes), or EO. Either way, both being added into anything are just as bad. I don't like the fact that they don't even have to list what's in the fragrance ingredient. No doubt that it may contain various toxins. I've sent a reply email because I was curious about if they've always had the fragrances, or had formula changes etc. Hopefully I get an honest and fast reply. ----- I was also curious about home made alternatives when it comes to rashes, dry skin, etc. I did some research and apparently Tallow from grass-fed animals contains conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), which has anti-inflammatory properties, as well as palmitoleic acid, which has natural antimicrobial properties. It can be used on the skin for all manner of skin conditions, including dry, chapped, calloused, cracked, and sun-damaged skin, rashes, burning, itching, wrinkles, etc. I was thinking "Wow this would be perfect for ferrets..." Then I found this recipe.
-Tallow — from 100% grass-fed cows -Olive oil — extra virgin It did have EO's but ditch that, who needs it, we don't lol. It was only in there to neutralize the scent of the tallow. I'm so curious~

The only thing is that sudocreme is used to prevent a ferret from licking the wound...this would mean that not only the ferret would lick it's wound, so would all the other ferrets he shares space with  ciao

Does anyone know exactly what ingredient in the sudocrem makes it taste... unbearable to most ferrets? I'm curious.

I know it's not quite related, but one thing ferrets DO seem to like the taste of is cilantro! After chopping some I washed my hands pretty thoroughly, but I could still smell it faintly on my fingers. Nobody could stop licking me!

Mine says "lavender oil". I believe Sherry double checked her old container and lavender was not listed as an ingredient. The new containers look like this (note the purple "lavender" writing) Whereas the old ones (which I DIDN'T think had lavender) looked like this: I thought for sure it was a new formula change.

None of my ferrets like Citrus. They always shake their head and run away when I have it on my fingers.
Just peeling and orange and then I will pick them up they would squirm like crazy to get out of my hands (more than normal) Then I realized it was because my hands smelled like orange. they do the same with lime or lemon.
