Ok so I am established with a vet currently and he is very experienced with ferrets although I do not like his pushiness about vaccinating. We are both head strong on the issue and tend to bump heads over this single topic. I feel like the first few times dealing with him he was a tad heavy handed in his attempt to intimidate but thanks to this forums and lots of reading I felt comfortable enough not to back down and our current stance is that he will always bring it up, I will always say no and then we move on. It's a silly dance he feels obliged to continue BUT regardless of that I have no real complaint.
With that said, my real issue is the distance. I keep thinking about Nibs and I realize in his case proximity would not have mattered but there could be other things that crop up. My current vet, on a good day of traffic is an hour away. There is a vet 10 minutes away from me but she isn't experienced with ferrets. I would like to ask her to learn about them. I mean I would be bringing her 8 "clients" plus 1 dog and cat. I'm not sure how to go about asking her without sounding like i'm telling her how to run her office or in a way that makes her feel like her pride is hurt.
I thought about bringing my husbands cat and mother-in-laws dog up for their next round of check ups and whatnot (they are both geriatric so you know they need extra stuff now). So I thought maybe if I did that I could casually mention that I have 8 ferrets I would love to bring to her office if she would brush up on all things ferrety but I'm not sure really how to approach the subject.
I just worry that the current vet is too far AND on top of the distance it is hard to get appointments.
What do you think?
