I am probably shooting myself in the foot here lol( after all I travel all over the world judging ferrets ) and I work and breed them when people get too passionate about showing ferrets the ferret suffers ( its only a ribbon and a flimsy trophy at the end of the day ) I have seen it all over the world people think oh I have a champion it got best in show I must breed it what they fail to think about is it got best in show why where there a lot there in that group ? did the judge prefer a certain colour and type ? ( some prefer working size some prefer chunky)its all down to a judges preference what one judge may like one day another judge will hate ferret shows should be taken with a pinch of salt they should be fun places to meet up and talk to like minded people who needs a ribbon ? god I have hundreds of them and trophy's do they mean anything no it was just a fun day out would I go home and breed from those ferrets who won best in show no I have my own selective breeding program some years I don't breed at all others I may breed two or three litters depending on what lines I need to keep going its like working a lot of working people now will only use micros I use all types whippets bulldogs greyhounds and all colours at one time only albinos where worked because they where easy to see now hunters are favouring silvers and sandies this results in the genepool being messed up yet again because they are not breeding like to like ( eg albino to albino) take care bye for now Bev

I enjoy showing because it's fun, that's about it, there is someone at the shows that I go to who takes the shows too seriously, he keeps records of who's won what and gets crabby if he doesn't win so you can imagine his face when Bandit became champion and not his jill Lightening. For working, I don't have a colour preference, the colour isn't going to affect how the ferret works when it's in the warrens.
