He was ok now for a while, we are trying the new protein today - quail. I would be really happy if he could eat it.

Hope the quail goes well for Chili! Another protein that might be good to try is lamb, it's typically gentle during digestion.

Good luck with the quail! My former mentee has a boy who absolutely can't eat anything with feathers and wings (she lives in Croatia, so kind of your part of the world ). He does really well on rabbit, venison, lamb, etc. Goat is also a protein that is usually well-tolerated by ferrets with food sensitivities.

I know. Just wanted to try something feathery, since if it goes ok, i have one more source of whole prey and of course eggs. If it fails, we will go for a horse (i can get horse organs, lamb is a bit harder for me to get). I know about Natalija's ferret I told her to switch him to raw. I have been reading their thread and they did very well ☺

Well, do let us know how it goes! All birds don't necessarily fall into one category. For example, my Nova cannot eat chicken at all, but does perfectly fine with duck and quail.

I have bad updates for this thread. Chili was doing great than he started to loose his weight again. He droped for 100 g in a month which I didn't really liked, but everything else seemed ok. We also tried two new proteins fish and quail and he seem to be doing fine with them. I was thinking to give him a course of helicobacter treatment, but since he was acting normaly, eating ok and the poops were fairly ok, I just didn't ...
Big mistake. I was on a ferret show during the weekend and he crushed on saturady. Refused to eat on his own, his weight droped a lot, ... my bf was syringe feeding him, gave him infusions, BG was normal. On sunday when I returned, I started him on therpay, yesterday I took him to a clinic with me. Checked blood values, did x-ray, ... The blood pannel was horrific, he was severely anemic, pcv 13 instead of 45+. Thnx god is regenerative anemia, which tough means he is loosing blood somewhere. We are inclined toward gastric ulcer, sinc the x ray does not show any massive bleeding. Other blood pannel values are ok, on the chemistry part, his total proteins are too low, which means he is not absorbing them ok. Yesterday he got blood transfusion, we started him on coagulation therapy + b vitamins and full helicobacter therapy (sucralfate, ranitidine, metronidazole, spiramycin, amoxiciline + clavulanic acid). Today he is better, pink again and eating on his own. We will check his values in few days and do an US to check if there is steel any bleeding.
