I was clipping Minx's nails earlier and as a snipped she wriggled and now she wont stop bleeding. its been about 20 mins, I have tried dipping her paw in flour (don't have any styptic powder or even know where to get it right now) I tried dipping her paw in warm water and then in flour, it just seemed to make her foot doughy. I don't know if I am doing it wrong or what but I cant get her to sit still long enough to properly examine her foot.
I don't think she is in pain as when it happened she flinched a bit but just kept licking her belly. Can someone give me some advice asap please?

Got corn starch, baking soda. Flour is good--- just trying to keep them still after treating them . maybe put ferret somewhere to restrict movement? ? got gauze to wrap after dipping in flour?Would not do anything in warm water as it will make it bleed more. If there is a vet nearby or a pet grooming place you could take her there and ask for some septic powder. Before next nail cutting ---you know what to do:))))

Just got to this, but if it happens again, also putting pressure on the affected toe helps. Once in a while you will need to get to the vet, but between flour/cornstarch and pressure it should stop.

Hi if flour wont stop it use soap a bit gooey soap from a soft bar smeared over seals the end of the nail ( I normally grab the affected foot squeeze the bleeding toe and dip in gooey soap ) remember a little blood goes a long long way ! and don't feel guilty it happens to the most experienced of us sooner or later ! take care bye for now Bev

Just an update so you don't all worry, turns out the flour and/or water did work she is fine now. Have to buy some styptic powder now just in case it ever happens again. Just out of curiosity, how do you grab and squeeze the foot? Minx would barely stay still and when I did grab her foot she squirmed like mad, trying to dip her foot in a bowl of flower was insane, she literally kicked it everywhere. Is there a trick to this or am I just too scared to be firm with her?

Styptic is best, but corn starch works really well. I got Moe so bad once he jumped off my lap and took off leaving a blood trail. First time I ever did it was the worst by far. I had just joined a forum and remembered corn starch. By the time I caught up to Moe he had calmed down but was still bleeding and the corn starch stopped it like now.
It's just a matter of giving the blood something to grab on to and build a clot. The nail is hollow so there's nothing at the end to build on while the blood is flowing.

I just hold them up in the air under the front legs and very gently pinch the toe and hold. This is after the flour or cornstarch by the way.
