So while Marty's skin was healing from his surgeries, I noticed a lump at the end of the sutures, but I figured it was just the skin stitching together, and it'd dissipate. It didn't, and now I can see its another MCT. This is RIGHT where the edge of the original one would have been, and it started growing immediately after surgery.
I can't really afford to take him in again so soon. I'm going to call the vet once I can at least pay for a checkup and not be broke, but how long can I wait? I have it bandaged with some corn starch to prevent bleeding, but he's already refusing to play and only wants to sleep again. Its very small, about the size of the one that was on his neck, but I'm in a bit of turmoil that my happy little man isn't here again. His energy crashed right as I noticed it was seeping.
Would the vet take care of the expenses if it is left over from the original one? The baseline is 250 dollars, the lowest he said he could go last time, but I can't rely on family to pay for another surgery so soon.

All you can do is talk to them. It *shouldn't* have come up immediately, but this is a ferret, so who knows. Have her check to make sure it isn't an infected stitch as well.

One thing you might consider is perhaps an abscess or infection under the suture. I would be taking him into the vet to make sure. Most ferrets are not ill from MCTs, his behaviour concerns me. The cyst appearing along a suture line bothers me as well. ciao

I'm calling when I wake up, a friend sent me some birthday money, which will cover most of the cost of a check up.

They were closed today, but I'll call again tomorrow... and it looks like a miniature version of the original tumor on his chest... smells the same as the first one too. The goop is from the corn starch and blood mixing, I cleaned that away before redressing it. Right now he's rolling around/falling asleep in a plastic bag.

Looks like an incomplete excision. They need to get the rest of it. Good luck

Maybe they can do it for even less than before if that is the case, since it should have been taken care of the first time.

I would insist on it.

If they caused it, it should be free.

The vet said that it sounds like a seed cell was missed and that he wants to do a wide resection this time for $200, and that if it comes back after that the only option is Chemotherapy or letting him go. At first he was trying to tell me it might be time, but when I told him about his 5 minute spurts of energy and the way he played before the tumor started weeping, he agreed that he deserves one more chance.
The surgery is scheduled at 9:15 on Tuesday, and I don't know how I'll get there, but I want to get this taken care of before it starts growing.
I'm scared and I feel guilty. I don't know what to do to get my mind off of it.

I hope he does okay after this. I am still a bit hesitant about it being a "seed cell", but good luck with it.
Do you think they will tell you if they simply missed removing a stitch?

Oh man, that sucks. I would think it was an improper procedure and they should fix it up for you for free, but the vet knows they got you in a bad spot so "pay up" :/

The stitches weren't removed, they were tucked inside and they disappeared as the skin healed. Similar to the stitching that was done when my appendix was removed.

Some friends are pooling together money to help out. I want to cry from all the support they're giving me... Even a friend's mom is saying she'll add some! What a massive relief. I'll have to do some thank you gifts to everyone...
