I just posted on fb but wanted to use both resources. One of my boys just pooped very loose and bright green. Should I be worried? I have never seen him poop like this.

Here's a picture. Please excuse the litter, I'm still learning and it's going away tomorrow. Thanks!

Anytime I have seen this in my past ferrets and it continued, it was ECE. Very Contagious to other ferrets and the ferret will have to be administered fluids to keep them hydrated. None of mine died of ECE but all were hospitalized and given supportive care until the virus passed.

Oh wow ok. Would lethargy also be a symptom of this? He has not been himself today.

Just a little more info. We've been doing the switch to raw for a little over a week now and both my boys are eating the soup. Wade is older and a little resistant to the switch. We gave him a break today because I felt like he seemd a little stressed. Bruce has been acting completely fine.he is new to our family, he's been here for about two weeks. What is my course of action here? Keep him hydrated while the diarrhea persists? Seek out a vet if it's still like this tomorrow? Neither of my boys have ever been sick before so I'm totally out of my element. Is it possible this is stress related?

I don't know if it's the lighting, but that poop seems almost neon green. There can be funky poops during transition, they can also be stress related. Also seitching between raw and kibble can cause tummy upsets. However, that could hint to ece as well. I always say "trust your instincts", if he isn't acting like himself and you are worried, take him in to a vet

It looked pretty neon in person too. He's had three more loose poops since then, brown but seedy in texture. He's also just laying in the floor and not himself. I'm gonna take him to my vet when she opens just to be safe. Would the lethargy be a sign of ece or could he just be extra tired from being sick?

Lethargy is a very common symptom with most diseases or conditions, including ECE. Your vet will probably want a sample to test if that's the case. How is he now? Keep us posted!

mine pooped green when switching as well. I think they r detoxing or system trying to get use to the new food. I got so many poop pics. If he did not show ece on kibble why now....just a question.

I think that yellowish color on that blue green potty heightens the affect of color of what we see here . I do not know how old your ferret is mine was 5.5 when i changed her and I have observed from mine, that the ones on kibbles the longest have the worst poops, For instance my baby whom i started on raw was just fine. My one yr old had some issues as well, but not like senior.
I would go to vet as well. For hydration, you can get some gerber all meat baby food and mix with some water. This is what my vet told me to use -(along with some other things in mix, which i do not use , now)
When I changed my ferrets over, they got bacteria overload, and had to be on antibiotics,---but the symptom of this beside loose stool, is an awful smell. (stool was dark tho)

Nei's first poop during transition was neon green as well, could just be one of those odd poops. I think if it was ECE the poops would be consistently green while the virus is in bloom. I would continue to monitor and add some bone meal to the soupies to help firm up those poops.

If you fed him kibble close to a raw, this may have contributed as well----if i got info correctly? I forgot to mention---Beechnut chicken and other meat baby foods from them are better than Gerber, because Gerber, i think adds cornstarch. But sometimes Beechnut is hard to find.

I'm sorry Wade is not feeling well. How is he this morning? What have his poops looked like overnight? Green poop could be caused from his new food. The poop in the picture looked very seedy (that's undigested fats). It was mucousy and that is from his system producing mucous to help the digestive track. It's no uncommon to see funky poops during a switch. It's when they have more than one or two that we worry. Chicken is a common allergen. He may have an upset tummy. If he has an allergy or intolerance, you will notice funky poops after every chicken meal. Then it's time to eliminate chicken from his diet. ECE is green slime disease. Has he been around any young pet store ferrets? They carry the bug and pass it along to other ferrets. A course of antibiotics clears that up. This doesn't look like an ECE poop. I saw them when Roamy picked up a case of ECE when Mika came home. Look at his ears, nose and paws. Are they a nice pink color? We're going into Winter and they all will sleep a little more. Wade may have had a sleepy day and combined with the poop, frightened you. If you are worried, always trust your instincts and take them to the vet. I would get some more food and water in him and see what the next poop looks like in 3 hours. Please keep us posted. You're doing the right thing with poop patrol. It's a big part of being a ferrent.

Hi, sorry for the long response time. His poops were back to being green this morning with no solid form to it. He had at least 3 like that so I took him to the vet, between the poops and his sad little face I was just too worried. He's definitely dehydrated and the vet agreed with me, you can just take one look at him and tell he feels crappy. I couldn't get him to eat this morning but I was able to get him to drink. The vet didn't seem to think it was ECE either and was thinking it might be a reaction to the chicken like you mentioned poncesmom. He had diarrhea during the visit and it was bad, completely liquid, bright green and a very strong odor so she is gonna run a test on that as well as doing some blood work.
Abbeytheferret6 he has been on kibble for a much longer time so I was wondering if this was a detox thing. It hasn't slowed down any though so I just went ahead and took him in. We usually feed him in the morning and a few hours go by before we offer him any kibble. We were only still giving kibble because he hasn't really taken to the switch like Bruce and I was worried he wasn't getting enough food. I'm not sure if thats long enough and maybe it upset his system?
