Thank you for the kind words. The reason it hurt was that they both owned ferrets as well. No one else commented on it and I have several ferrents on instagram. And I would share here if I knew how. Lol its so difficult

I'm sorry those comments hurt your feelings. People really don't pay that much attention to what they see or read. They're too busy forming their own comments in their head. That goes for listening to someone also. Most people are half listening and waiting for you to finish so they can say what they've been waiting to say. The hamster balls are a red flag for most ferrents. Too many ferrets have been hurt in the small balls. Their spines are very delicate and new to ferret ferrents use them like a baby walker or playpen. They figure their ferrets are okay and safe to run around in. I didn't see your post, but I'm willing to bet everyone immediately jumped to the wrong conclusion. You've already said you were supervising and I'm guessing that he was not enclosed in a hamster ball which you know is not safe for him. Since your roommie has already brought the puppy home, I guess you'll have to be very vigilant and supervise. It's just like having a little baby in the house around someone else's pets. One quick mistake and your ferret pays the price. I wish they had respected your concerns but they didn't. You were looking for the link to homemade freeze dried treats. Gfountain and some others have done this recently and had great success with it. holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/5840/home-freeze-dried-jerky-treats :wave3:

Thank you for the link to the treats.
Also the ball was really only used about two weeks to help litter train him and get him used to the apartment. I want him to have as much free range as possible. He has the run of two rooms when the dogs out and the dog has the other two. I'm not going to hinder his play time, or time out of his cage. That's not fair to him. But the dog doesn't know her strength and is much larger than him. I don't let them play like at all. Only time they play is when bonbons is in his tunnel system. She waits at the openings for him and he runs about to another one.
Also my fiancee and I are both on board for the switch to raw, and I was wondering if anyone had the soup recipe? I can't find it. I've seen others versions of it in their switching threads, but not the original.

A quick question for you all
Bonbon is refusing to eat organ meat. Is it okay to still give him bone in meat and muscle meat while i work with him some more on the organ meat. I just am worried he isnt getting the right nutrients. Also he doesn't seem to want to eat anything but chicken. As of now he will eat chicken wings, chicken muscle meat and raw egg. But he only gets raw egg once a week.

I'm sorry I missed your request for the soup recipe: docs.google.com/document/d/1aRms_O0F38lNSQktABNYDqievQ9GZSR4rRR6fcAcPHA/edit?pli=1Imbalances take awhile to occur. Bonbon is eating quite well right now for a new to raw ferret. Heart is the most important thing. Ferrets need to have the Taurine that heart or tongue provides. Heart is a muscle meat and not an organ, just for info sake. The raw soupie recipe is completely balanced and will provide all his nutrients while you work on getting him on a fully balanced menu. Work on getting him comfortable with some other animal sources. Chicken is a common allergy/intolerance and we don't want him to refuse other meats and imprint on chicken only. What organ meats are you trying right now? How are you serving them?

Right now I'm working with chicken liver. We have cut it into smaller pieces for him to work with. It's served at a cool/room temperature.
I haven't been able to get hearts due to that recent bird flu epidemic. My butcher shop has been hurt by it. Cornish hens, chickens, phesents, quil, and turkeys were all affected. So I've been looking around my area for other places to get him hearts and other organs. I'm a little iffy, about ordering raw meat online, I don't see it as being fresh. That's just me, but if I can't get something soon I will look more into it. Like I said I want my boy healthy.

What other animal source do you think I should start him on? Cornish hens? I know those bones are easy for him to handle as of now. He's a little over three months.

Cornish game hens are a great bone in source. Walmart grocery stores carry them in their freezer bin and they are about $3 a hen. Have you checked out these markets in your area. Asian Markets are such good sources for hearts and organs. You can find duck hearts and gizzards there and that gives you pricey duck for low costs. Viet Hoa Oriental Market Inc 423 Northampton St Easton, Pennsylvania This market got great reviews on Yelp. It's in Bethlehem but that's not too far from you. 1205 Stefko Blvd Bethlehem, PA 18017 Get Directions Phone number (610) 419-6305 A major Asian market is the H Mart. Here is their website and you can see if one of their four locations is close to you. www.hmart.com/company_new/shop_main.aspAs for online shopping: MyPetCarnivore and HareToday are places that we have ferrents order from regularly. Shipping costs will depend on where you are. Shipping costs for me for example are a bit outrageous but I'm not close to any highways and deep in the country. @julesalot orders from them but she is on the other side of my state in a populated area and her shipping costs run about $25 last time I saw her mention them.

Oh thanks for the information I will defiantly check out those too places. They aren't all that far away from where I'm located at all.
Are ferrets picky when it comes to organ meat?

Hi normally when you start them young they soon learn how yummy organ meats are lol ( my guys are like vampires over beef liver lol ) but only feed liver once per week when you try him with some soup blitz in a little liver or heart with it ( raw heart has the same texture as liver when blitzed lol ) just add a little bit this way you are introducing new tastes and textures if he backs away from the soup simply rub a little on his gums or dab a little on his nose so he has to taste it then leave him to it hunger soon takes over with kits lol good luck take care bye for now Bev

Yeah my last order the shipping was $21. But you can pick up meat from Hare Today yourself if you're close enough, they're in Conneautville, PA. Also remember, grocery store meat won't be technically "fresh" either, really no meat is unless you kill it yourself, even then you have to freeze it for 2-4+ weeks before feeding to kill any parasites and etc. I also don't like not knowing exactly where the meat my fuzzums eat comes from, but I see it as much better than what they put in kibble. If you do order online, if you have the space, order in bulk, it saves on shipping and of course just less of a hassle in general. I don't have enough sotrage containers or space to order too much at a time, I order around $70-$100 worth of meat at a time. My two hogs eat 6-8 ounces per day together, and what I order lasts 6 weeks.

SO i have a few questions for everyone.
My biggest question is that Bonbon recently started digging in his litter box even though he has a dig box outside of his cage. He is allowed outside a lot of the time so this is a new habit, Although i thought it was caused because the other day my fiancee but a little too much litter inside of his box. Is this a common occurrence during the winter time? should i buy him a larger dig box and is there anything i could do to stop it.
Side notes: tomorrow he will be getting his brand new ferret nation two story cage and I will be getting rid of the first ferret cage. He will have plenty of space to run around adn be insane even in his cage. Although the fiancee doesnt realize its my closer step to getting a second ferret.
So next question can ferrets be bonded to m/m, f/f, or m/f also is there a certain age for them to become bonded? And is it possible to have two ferrets who never become bonded? how does it work?

He may have just been having fun in the extra litter(hopefully). When I got my baby, I bought a bag of paper pellets, because that is what she was on at Petco. I put it in a 5 gallon pail and found my 2 year old going around and around backwards kicking up the litter. Anything new, anything different, they will find it.
I am sure there are different strengths of bonds between ferrets. I did not know about bonding until joining forum. However, I did witness my little man, Buddy(DIP) being repeatedly licked in the face by my 2 girls(DIP) when he came home after a 2 day hospitalization.
This is what I have experienced(all spayed and neutered)
Adding one female to another female---ok (I guess everybody needs a friend). Adding the 3rd female(baby)--- big trouble.
Previous ferrets: Adding a baby male, Buddy to two females was ok, other than he was dragged across floor a few times by lead female until he got too heavy. He was never bitten or treated badly, other than the dragging. Buddy and lead female never accepted the two males that I got later.

So now I have another question about ferrets. I recently started hearing a new sound, it sounds like a deep inhale or hiss of sorts coming from both of the boys? Is that a normal sound?

oh yes:))
Mine do it when they r playing and one gets aggravated. Like--- Stop it, I have had enough, Or---Leave me alone. Most of my hisses are aggravations. My Annabelle was hissing at my new boy. She does not like him---Possible warning.
My itty bitty baby at the time, found a piece of jerky under the bed,and she thought i was going to take it from her, I thought it might be some plastic or something. She hissed at me and jumped towards me in a threatening little way twice with it hanging in her mouth. So so cute.
