Ok, everyone ,I'm new here but not new to pet rescue or forums. (I'm addicted to pug and rescues) ok so, I have 2 ferrets I believe we're bought together in dec 2014 as babies and I rescued / threatened someone in May for them. They are mine and now fat, healthy cuddle fuzz bugs. Ok, now that I got that out of the way let me start my real conversation; as I said I have been in contact with animals my whole life and have rescued, bred, raised grown and buried a lot of animals. I know the importance of the right food and environment. And I'll admit that marshals makes me ill, anything with marshals name on it I refuse to buy or support( as the poor pet smart guy found out when mentioning marshals to me). So since I live in north Louisiana there is nothing here for ferrets, rescue or a good responsible breeder. So of course me being superwoman I was thinking... How can I do this??? I dnt want to breed necessarily mainly bc I would be too picky (like a rescue ) and I would never home the babies.. Lol (seriously) so any help advice, or whatever you think would be helpful!!!!

Hello There is a rescue in Opelousas Louisiana. www.facebook.com/BonTempsFerretRescue?fref=tsDon't take in more than you can support and take care of yourself and do not count on ferrets being adopted. Adoptions are at a standstill across the country. It is easy to get in over your head.

Adoptions are at a standstill across the country. It is easy to get in over your head. Reading this today, it sounds much sharper than intended. I really shouldn't answer things when pressed for time. I've become a bluntly honest to the point person. In all seriousness you shouldn't open your doors until you have $4000-$5000 in savings that you can replenish as you use it. You cannot depend on outside funding. I have a fundraiser going now and it has raised ~$400. The one I did a few years ago for the shelter before me raised $3000. The funds are just not out there.

Nor can you count on a vet being willing to work with you, both at a reduced cost or letting you run a bill up before paying it off

Hey all.... No, I dnt think you sounded harsh at all.. I know the cost, I worked with pug rescue for yrs.. My plan is to one day breed to where people have an option to not by the Marshall ferrets ( not for profit) so that means minimal breeding if I even did that.. For the rescue I would almost have to wait until my kids are in high school or college so I could have time to dedicate to ant animals that needed help or attn. now my kids are 13& 9 so it's not that far off. I'm lucky to have a lot of vets in my area and I'm close with my vet now so I think when I'm ready if ever... I should be good... Again I hope
