You and River are doing great! Beef is a strong flavor and it's not always popular. I went nuts trying to find some beef that mine would eat.
Beef is high in Iron and Vitamin B, so we want them to have a red meat meal once a week. Look for a fatty cut of chuck roast. Slice it into slivers and offer them a piece with the fatty end towards them. If they refuse it, try running it under some hot water and then offer it again.
Have you tried any eggs yet?

I tried eggs when we first started and she wasn't interested. I'll try one this evening and see. I have duck and chicken eggs, do they tend to like one more than the other?

Patchmomma: I put my egg in glass of hot water for a minute or so---never timed it really. That is, to knock off chill and then separate yoke from white and give yoke, since it is the tastiest part of egg.
Little expensive, but I have one girl who LUVS quail eggs.( farmers market)

I'll try just the yolk, thanks! We have fresh duck and chicken eggs aplenty, I hope she likes them.

I've tried chicken and duck eggs, beaten whole or just the yolk. She doesn't care for them at all. Is that a big deal? Some progress yesterday and today! She loves ground turkey. I tried minced fatty pork but she didn't go for it. I mixed the two up and she chowed down! No water added, so she's getting more used to thicker meats. I picked up some lamb today and will butcher one of my meat chickens as a cornish hen to see how she likes that this week. It makes me so darn happy to see her eating raw! She's a happy, healthy by girl! Now she just needs a friend. LOL

Have you tried warming the plate before placing the egg on it so the egg gets a little warm? She may like it that way, a lot of ferrets do. Eggs help with preventing hair balls so if you can get her to eat them that would be very good. Yay for mince! Now you can try sneaking some slivers in there!

I haven't tried warming it, I'll do that. Thanks!

I store my eggs really cold so before I serve one I set it in a bowl and put it under some hot running tap water for a minute or two to warm it up. Then I crack it over a plate (often on top of some food) and scramble it all with my fingers.

Well, River still isn't liking eggs. LOL She's still eating a thick soup, ground and finely minced meat but she will not eat anything I'd consider a good sized sliver or chunk.
Last night we got her a pal, a 2yo boy we named Simon. In no time he was eating very thick soup and small chunks of meat! He's eating the small chunks she's rejecting. LOL So, for now I'm going to feed them separately but I'm excited our new addition is taking to raw so well!

Congrats on the new addition! Just keep working with the small pieces and slivers, when you are feeding them together, the newbie may teach her how to eat the larger pieces too. It does not always work that way but sometimes it does.

Actually it seems to be working that way! She was kind of jealous about her food when he first got here. She wasn't aggressive or anything, just wanted to eat it all before he could. LOL That's calmed down but because he's eating some chunks she's decided to give it a go. Yay!

How are Simon and River getting along?
Is she loving having a friend? And has she explained to Simon that she is the boss?

They're getting along famously! They play so well together and when they sleep in their cage they'll sleep together.
Simon is way more lazy, but he is at least 2 years old. River's about 9 months now. It tickles me because they get each other interested in things in the house that they won't normally investigate or play with on their own.
The war dancing and dooking is hilarious when they play, just something you don't see nearly as much of with just one ferret.
