I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, so if it isn't please tell me. =) My Ferret Grimm cough and sneeze every loud when he sleeps at times. He even does it when he is awake, but more when he is asleep. I'm mostly freak out because when my rats sound like that they almost always have a upper respiratory infection. Right now he sounds fine, but it happens at least once or twice a week. I made a vet appointment the 27 of this month to see what is going on. I'm mostly posting because I want to know what you think it could be and should I be very worried??? Anyways thank you for readings! ^.^

How old is Grimm? URI or possibly congestive heart failure, but if his energy level is ok, it's not his heart. How long has this been going on? Prissy had a bit of a rattle over the weekend but it seems to be gone now

If it seems to be only when he is in the cage, or in bedding it could be from fur stuck in his throat. Keep an eye on energy levels etc. If appetite decreases, or energy levels really decrease, or it gets worse/more consistent I'd take him in to rule out any issues.

My Davie had lung cancer. He died at 2 yrs old---do not know how how he got that, we do not smoke.
But he would come down out of cage coughing. When he tried to play (jumping on my little girl's back) he would have to stop. He always had to stop and rest.
After that, I make sure--- when I replace vinyl---I get glue that does not outgas.
I even found some carpet that is pure wool at an carpet warehouse. Resolve carpet cleaner no more.

Grimm is less than a year old. I used yesterday news paper as his litter, but he doesn't have actually bedding in the cage. He has done it when he is playing, but it mostly happens when he is asleep. He is very active and not lazy. He eats a lot now more than he did when I first got him. He will be going to the vet tomorrow. I will be leaving for two weeks soon, so I want to make sure he is healthy first. Thank you for the help guys! Sorry to hear about Davie

Do let us know what vet says. i know that a lot of litter smells --even yesterdays's news. Sometimes when it comes right out of bag it is strong-- smelling. If you have not already, try to get unperfumed kind.
When i bought my baby she was eating the equivalent to yesterday's news at pet store--one of the reasons i bought her.
The sneezing sounds like a little allergy thing going on. See if it has made dust as it does kind of crumble in shipping and handling.
Things not to do---do not use perfumed plug ins or scented candles around ferret, since they r very susceptible to respiratory problems.

The vet visit went fine. She said she thinks he has allergy problem. So she put him on HomeoPet Nose Relief. 5 drops 3 times a day. She also said that he is over weight an needs to lose 1 pound to start with. Other than that he is healthy. If the problem doesn't go away, than I should bring him back up there and get tested for heart worms. I do on the other hand have a scented thing in my room. I shale take that out. I didn't think about it when I got it. I'm sure that is not helping him. Thank you all for you're help! Grimm and I both very much appreciate it.

Allergies are no fun at all for them. Something else that may help is to have him in a steamy shower room. Inhaling the warm steam helps open up his airways and moisten them.
