I've seen it suggested for pancreatic cancer in humans and other tumor/cancer issues. Has any research ever been done on using it for ferret cancers?

Frankincense really. That's interesting. My Mother in Law is fighting Pancreatic Cancer. Unfortunately her battle may be coming to an end. I have not heard of this and we have done some research.
They (my Mother in Law and her husband) are not likely to turn to eastern medicines or really do any research on their own. I'll definitely look into this and see what is out there. Have you looked for any articles by Bob Church regarding this?
I did a quick google and came up with some well respected medical sites discussing this for humans. Thanks for the heads up and question. This is so thought provoking.

Frankincense is an essential oil, those are quite dangerous towards ferrets as they cannot filter that out of their body so it builds up and can cause serious issues over time. I don't know a lot about this though, but I would say that since it is an essential oil (from what I have read at least) that it could do more harm than good. But we are are always looking for different treatment options, good idea to ask about it.

That's a good point @julesalot. I wonder if they can distill it to a different form?

Ponce, I hope it helps.
Jules, I know aromatherapy from eo can be bad over time, but this would be targeted treatment for tumors that are a death sentence.
I've started using herbal teas for myself and son with good results. Good enough that I've started drying my own home grown lemon balm and tincturing pineapple sage. Bonus is that mice don't like the smell and I'm trying to surround my chicken coop with them.

If they could it would definitely be worth a shot, maybe someone will get on that. I'd tag Heather/Sherry but I'm on tapatalk and have no idea how, lol. But they'd probably be able to give a better answer.

Yes, but the issue is the buildup of EO may do more harm than good. With proper diet and medication ferrets with Insulinoma can live up to 3 years, usually reaching a normal life span. I do not know enough about the effects of EO to say much about how it could affect them though.

Ponce, it can be bought in the original solid form, but eo is needed to concentrate it. It takes a lot to make the eo. I may think about getting the tea for myself. Eo is also used for skin cancer, bone cancer, and mole removal in humans.

Jules, my experience has been that I usually lose them at six months. Being a rescue, they usually come to me showing symptoms and untreated.

The longest I had an insu fert was 1 1/2 yrs. My boy has had insu and lymphoma for 8-9 months and so far his BG is in around the 90s and he's still going strong. In cases where they may not have more than a few months it may be helpful, but in cases where it isn't very progressed or bad then I would be more concerned about the build-up shortening their life before extending it. I'll definitely be doing more research on EO and ferrets, as I only know what little I have read from the admins here and etc.

That is part of the problem I'm finding, a lack of research regarding the use of quality oils and ferrets. There is a vet on the medical holistic board that has had great results in cats, but stresses the oils must be high quality.

P.s. Frankincense is not high in phenols like some other eo's

Ferrets and EO's are an absolute no go. Treated properly with the various drugs available you can get up to 3 yrs. I've heard of the use of EO's in cats and do not condone it's use. I've seen what this type treatment does long term. I suppose the line of well they were dying of this anyway so how do you know it's the EO and not the disease. Generally, if the animals dies in a shorter period of time than it would have by using a allopathic medication then the homeopathic treatment didn't do the job. I've used both methods and will turn to the allopathic method in these cases. It's results are faster, do not cause organ failure and prevents seizures when medicated properly. Intense EO methods cannot claim this. ciao

Thank you Heather, very informative.
Very good and interesting question jadeguppy, it's always worth a shot to ask and research new options for our fuzzers.
