I'm going to pick something up from the pet shop tomorrow because my paste has run out and two of my boys are coughing/hissing...
Just wondered if anyone has any tips for what's best to give them? Or could it be something else that's making them cough/hiss/make this noise?

It is most likely fur caught in their throat from over grooming. Give them an egg and if they are not use to egg, spoon feed them some. I also have used some oil in water after an egg, just to help soothe their throats and make things slippery.
If you have a small animal comb, comb them for the next few days. Help them groom some of the excess fur off.
There are other reasons for coughing, but since both are doing this, I would suspect excess grooming and fur caught in the throat. You can look around your home and see if you have anything that is very scented, that might cause sensitive noses to react. Put any scented candle, room fresheners and potpourri away. It's also best to wash their bedding in unscented laundry soap.
If you don't mind, are you talking about Ferret Paste like Ferretvite? There is alot of sugar in that, and it's not really a good product. Take a look at the ingredients and you will see it's all carbs and sugar. That's hard on a little carnivore's body. They are really not designed to process anything but protein. You may already know this, I don't know if you are a new ferrent or not. :wave3:

I never thought of egg! They love it too. The paste im using is called Defurr-um its one of the best that I've seen round here :s sugar is last on the list anyways! I've been brushing them and I've changed the bedding today in case they're getting hair off there? It was pretty badly hairy! It just surprises me that guinness is the one that gets all the problems but he's fine! They're not as bad as they were so I guess the paste is working I'll give them an egg tonight they'll love it.

That paste shouldn't ever be given to ferrets, it's sugar in a tube and does a lot more damage on the long run. I'd suggest you to stick to the egg, as poncesmom suggested

The paste I was using before was beaphar multi-vitamin / malt paste but they didn't have any at the shop :/ That's great that they love eggs. I hope the eggs help and the hacking stops. I took a quick look at the ingredients, since I am unfamiliar with this product. I'm guessing you use the one for cats? The good ingredients are Taurine and Calcium and Biotin. Unfortunately it does have milk and dairy products, plus vegetables by products. Milk and dairy is not good for their little tummies. They are not designed to process lactose. So if you don't mind my two cents...you're better off staying nice and simple with a natural egg and some pure oil like fish oil. It will be healthier and save you a few dollars. :wave3:
