I was wondering what kind of flea preventative everyone uses. I know that with my dogs I can give garlic in their food and that helps a lot as well as the preventative they get. I think I read something about using kitten medication, is that true? TIA

Avoid garlic for ferrets, that's toxic.
Over the counter flea meds from stores are dangerous. Pop into a vet office and ask them for a good flea medication. The ones for kittens may be all they have, but my vet did carry one for ferrets, when we lived in Florida. You simply place it between their shoulder blades. We had a few issues with fleas once or twice, when we lived in St. Pete on the water and I would bathe Ponce first to make sure that any fleas or eggs were gone and then apply the medicine a few hours later.
You'll want to wash any bedding and vacuum well. An old wives trick was to put moth balls in your vacuum cleaner bag. It kills any fleas or eggs that the vacuum sucks up. Just don't let Slinky near the moth balls.
