Hi Guys, My ferret Chloe is about four years old she's always been very healthy until about a month ago, I noticed her energy levels spiked, she stopped wanting to socialize with other ferrets and her tooth looks very brown. Here is a photo I was able to take of her tooth. I just noticed this today. Any suggests? She has also lost a lot of weight and I can feel her bones in her spine. She doesn't seem healthy at all.

For one, she needs a vet visit. Is she known adrenal? That accounts for the symptoms you are describing even without the hair loss. As for the tooth, have it looked at but honestly, it looks dead. Meaning odds are she has no pain in it.

Sherry, she's never had adrenal or been sick her entire life I've had her. It's just recently in the last month that she has experienced weight loss and is not socializing with other ferrets. I often have play dates with my friends ferret, they've known each other since I first brought Chloe home. She was hissing at her, not letting her comfort her and fighting with her every time she tried to get close, which is not very normal of her at all. I see her eating however and she goes to the bathroom a lot and it looks normal, like nothing has changed. But her weight loss is what concerns me. Yesterday she had something stuck in her tooth so I had to brush it out and I noticed that her tooth was brown and not clear white.
I made an appointment to get her checked out from the vet, she may require hospitalization but we will see. I hope it's something that she can recover from.
Thanks

Chloe is getting to be an older ferret. I'm glad that you have a vet visit scheduled. Trust your instincts as her ferrent. If she seems unwell, then there might be something going on. Hopefully, it's something simple that a course of antibiotics can clear up. If it's something like Adrenal, it can be managed and the HFF has alot of ferrents who can help with that.
Make sure that your vet looks into her mouth. Maybe she has a dental issue and it hurts to eat. It's summertime in most places and they lose weight and eat less. If you dangle her and you can see her ribs and she has a waistline, she is too thin. Look at her ears, nose and paws, they should be a nice healthy pink. She is pooping fine, does it look normal. No signs of a blockage?
Take a notebook with you to the Vet's office. We get emotional and it can be hard to remember everything they say. Good luck and I hope she will be fine. Please keep us posted. :wave3:

she could definitely need adrenal treatment then. Des implant would work best for that. If it is a dental issue(could be both), then a cleaning/extraction would have her up and running again

Thanks Sherry and Poncesmon This is the first time I've experience her being sick so it can be a bit hard for me and I am stressing a lot. Poncemon- there isn't any blockage, but she is peeing a lot. I will keep you posted after her vet visit tomorrow night. Thanks guys! Elsa

Hi Guys,
I just got back from the vet. She was very dehydrated and I waited for the X-ray results. Her tooth was also infected. Her kidney is very inflamed so they had to keep her overnight to do blood tests. It could be just an infection which is treatable or it could be a tumor so I'm just hoping it can be treatable. They are keeping her hospitalized until Monday, giving her fluids and force feeding her soft food. I'll know what she has for sure either tomorrow or Monday.

Hi All, Sad news, I went to visit Chloe last night at the clinic, she has been there overnight until today and she was really not doing well. Here are some photos I took of her: It looks like she might have a tumor in her kidney, and that's why her kidney is enlarged. The vet said she isn't reacting to any medication they give her. Her blood work said she is anemic too, so that could be related to the kidney. She is peeing blood, it was just really sad to see her, she is so weak. I think I might have to put her down today It's been a very sad week for me. I'll know more when I visit the clinic again today. Elsa

Thanks, I just called the vet this morning and it seems she is doing better, she is more alert and her glucose levels are back up. They are also switching her antibiotics and she seems to reacting well to them. I will visit her again tonight. She might have to stay longer, but if she seems to get getting better it might just be an infection.
I'll know more soon.
