Agreed. If that is a fresh kibble stool it isn't good.

This reply is much later than it should be but I wanted to let you know the results of the vet visit from lat week. Everything checked out okay! Dayton is very healthy and we got an exact weight for him finally. 2.6lbs. He also got his nails cut and we set up an appointment for his vaccines to be updated next month. He was a very good boy for the vet and a big hit with everyone there, all in all he had a pleasant experience I would say.

I've seen it recommended to not get multiple vaccines at the same time but to instead have them a couple months apart from each other. It takes more effort, but it's less risk and less stressful for the ferret's system.

Thank you for the tip but we're only getting his rabies vaccinations. Where I am located no vet has had a ferrets distemper vaccination in over 2 years from what I've been told they stopped making it.

Your posts make it sound like he's getting multiple vaccines, is he getting more than one shot during that vet visit?

I just didn't really think about while typing it sorry. No he is only getting one shot for the rabies vaccination. Also, I'm in Ohio and I'm going to be checking with another vet about distemper vaccinations actually after looking at the list of ferret services on the site. With distemper being a serious risk in ferrets I really don't think they'd stop producing the vaccination. If they do still actually offer them I will arrange for that to be done in September.

The ferret-specific canine distemper vaccine (Purevax) hasn't been available for a long time now, the closest thing is the vaccine they make for use with puppies. Merial (the company that manufactured the vaccine) hasn't committed to making Purevax anymore, but they were supposedly working on a new single-antigen (doesn't vaccinate against multiple things like the puppy vaccine does) canine distemper vaccine. It sounds like the new vaccine is going to be quite similar to Purevax and may become the best alternative. According to Merial, the new vaccine will have a "lower release titer" (less viral antigen) compared to what Purevax had, it's not known yet whether that will reduce its effectiveness, but I'd figure if it works for puppies, why wouldn't it work for ferrets?
