They can and do sometimes get bones between their teeth or on them in Willy's case :heehee: They can usually dislodge them themselves but sometimes we do need to step in and help them. It's always good to be watchful!

I always check them head to toes everyday, including their mouthes. Get them used to it while healthy, makes it easier if they ever get sick

First time Willy & Bear have been at the dish, at the same time without any hissing & screeching.

So, a couple things. Last night they had beef muscle & heart. The chicken hearts wasn't cut up at all & the beef was cubed (about the size of a new eraser). I only found 2 pieces stashed this morning We had a bit of a snafoo. My husband has been great at helping feed the fuzzies, now that I have a schedule posted on the fridge. Unfortunately, we've been busy & forgot to pull more grinds. So when I gave them the beef/heart, I mixed in egg (yolk & white) and a sprinkled some ground egg shell to make up for the missing bone. Is that okay for the occasional snafoo?

Yup that's fine for a quick fix occasionally. We have all forgotten to pull something out at some point or another.

Ferret math has struck! New ferret comes home Saturday. We are her third owner in the last 6 months, and we will be her last. She is 5 year old, marked white (from what I can tell in the photos). The current owners were so thrilled to hear about how I care for my ferrets they BEGGED me to take her for free I want to transition her immediately, but we will see how she adjusts to her new home. We actually picked up a cage today, that will be left open in the ferret room for sleeping. So she will be home there until all the ferrets are hunky-dory

I want to transition her immediately, but we will see how she adjusts to her new home. Honestly, I personally feel that it is much better to get all of the change and stress over with at once rather than prolong the stress by staggering the big changes. I would just start switching her immediately. The hand feeding will only help you bond faster, and every day sooner you start is one day less she spends eating kibble. Heather switches all of her rescues immediately - and I *believe* (correct me if I am wrong Heather) she does them ALL cold-turkey as well.

All new ferrets within an hour or so of walking through the door are introduced to the soupy that is in the files. I have the issue that most ferrets are surrendered without food. There is no chance of gentle transitions. Years ago in a panic, I bought a small bag of high end kibbles (because the ferrets had not been fed in 4 or 5 days...the owner had run out of food and didn't feel the need to feed the ferrets as they were being picked up and they couldn't be bothered the expense of a new bag). The gastric disaster of epic proportions occurred and I've never touched kibble again. For the next 48 hrs they're fed nothing but the raw soupy. I hand feed and for the first 24 hrs I feed every 3 hrs (unless they dive into the bowl and go for it ) My one pair this spring was a pair of seniors...Nefarious and Beowulf. Ages 6 and 7. All they'd ever known was dog kibbles. Nefarious was game and was eating out of the bowl on my lap within 24 hrs. Beowulf wasn't so accommodating and I had to scruff and stuff (please see files). Within 48 hrs both boys had no problems off the spoon and Beowulf was eating on his own by the end of the week. ciao

How exciting, I can't wait to see pictures! You have already learned that persistance and consistency with a bit of coddling and coaxing is what it takes to switch so I'm sure you will be able to make it happen for your new girl!

I'm so excited! I'm going to name her Ophelia or Marla, won't know until I cuddle her I'm not even least bit concerned about switching her to raw. I definitely feel like I've got a better grasp on what I'm doing. Plus I got everything I need already. Plus! There is a company Big Country Raw. It's an Ontario raw pet food company. All the meat is all natural, antibiotic & hormone free, human grade. I feed my dogs their pure proteins & dinner products. But they have a cat line too, and they carry pure duck, lamb, kangaroo, beef, pork, bison, turkey... That will be a BIG help.

Leaving to get new ferret soon. Unfortunately Willy isn't eating We played together last night for an hour & an hour again this morning. He has lots of energy, but didn't eat all night. I pureed 1/2 of his dinner with 1/2 of this mornings breakfast. Wouldn't touch it. Wouldn't take it off my finger. So I stuck a syringe full in his mouth & he started eating some willingly. He wouldn't eat pork earlier this week, so I pureed some in. I figured he just needed to be shown its not poison. But he still won't eat from a dish. I find that when I try something new that he doesn't like, he goes off food for awhile, like he doesn't trust me. He is fine in every other regard. I've caged him so I can keep a close eye on his food intake.

Maybe there was something in the air last night, all 4 of mine seemed to take a little food break last night too. They did appear to want the rat I gave them this morning though. Can't wait to see pictures of the newest, I'm going to call her Ophelia until you pick a name lol.
