So, I bought a new food for wisp and was wanting some opinions on wether or not it's ok for her to eat. It's called Feline Natural Raw Freeze Dried cat food. The only ingredients are: venison heart, chicken, chicken bone, venison kidney, venison liver, new Zealand green mussel
The values are: Min crude protein: 50.0% Min crude fat: 31.0% Max crude fiber: 1.3% Max moisture: 8.0%
It contains no artificial ingredients, additives, preservatives, wheat, rice, grains, cereal, soy, gluten, or HGP. So is this safe to feed her and do I need to add anything to it (besides the obvious water to rehydrated it)? Because I want to give her the best possible food that I can. I guess it's no way it could be worse than what she has been eating (disgusting walmart special).

This is a new product to me. The ingredients look good. The venison heart will provide Taurine plus a red meat for Vitamin B and Iron, you have chicken and chicken bone for calcium. Two organs, kidney and liver and the mussels should provide Omega 3's. We like to have a variety of proteins and so my only suggestion would be to buy the other product also. It has lamb and would give you another protein. I'm not familiar with Green Mussels, but found this article: www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=24+1306&aid=1557All in all, it looks like a good product to me. bitbyter Sherry Celene gfountain, what do you all think?

I'm glad that I made a good choice. She has been doing well on transitioning to her new food although she isn't exactly enthusiastic about it. But it's moving along. I figured that it would be a good transition to raw from kibble. That's my plan for her is to get her on raw. We tried soupies and she wasn't having that at all so I did more reasearch and decided to try raw freeze dried food and this was the best that I could find. I also will have complete access to raw meat when the time comes so this is also an option.

I also have some treats that I need opinions on. They are called Bravo! Healthy medley wholesome cat treat turkey medley. Ingredients are: turkey, Turkey heart, turkey liver, turkey gizzards. The values are: Crude protein: 75.00% (Min) Crude fat: 5.00% (Min) Crude fiber: 4.00% (Max) (Concerned) Moisture: 10.00% (Max) This would only be a treat for occasional use (no more than 2 pieces a day) but I'm slightly concerned about the fiber content. What do you guys think?

Yea I use this food in my commercial rotation. My only grippe with it is that it doesn't rehydrate as easily as Stella and Chewy. Just use lots of really warm water I also found out my boy ferret hates Venison (headwall) At least my girl loves this food

Yeah, I have noticed that it never fully rehydrates no matter how much you stir. So I just hydrate it enough to make it mushy a bit to break it up. That might be wrong, but it's how I can get it to work.

The Bravo! ones look good based on the ingredients. If the ingredients are accurate there should be 0% fibre (since none of the ingredients listed are sources of fibre).. Although since it's guaranteed analysis and says that amount is MAX, maybe it's closer to 0% and they're just covering themselves. If you are feeding entirely FDR (freeze-dried raw) you will also need to brush your fuzzy's teeth on a regular basis (2-3 times/week)

Thanks for that. I'm searching for a toothbrush and such for her anyway because I know first hand what tooth problems can mean for pets. Also, checking out vets in my area (just moved about a month ago, so still very new to the area) and since I'm sooo close to DC, it's kinda tough. And I was also confused about where the source of fiber could be coming from because all ingredients are meat so wasn't sure what was going on. But she absolutely loves the treats, just not so much on the food just yet. If she had her choice, she would live off of the treats. I love her to death, but she can be extremely stubborn at times. I've had to work on her leash training because she is stuck in her cage all of the time due to my sister's beagle looks at her as a chew toy. So she isn't able to be out of her cage except when I take her outside. So it's been alot of changes and adjustments for all of us.

That's interesting. So I can just use kitten toothpaste. Makes sense because I've been searching for ferret toothpaste. Geez. Thanks for that info. And I think I can possibly stomach gizzards after we swapped to meat. (I'm a vegan, so it's been a learning experience for me)

And I think I can possibly stomach gizzards after we swapped to meat. (I'm a vegan, so it's been a learning experience for me) We have alot of vegan/vegetarians on the forum. Pick up some Vicks vapor rub and dab some under your nose. You can use gloves to handle the meats. Also get a ferret only cutting board and cleaver. Keep those separate from your own human tools. Just like you chose to eat healthy for yourself, you've made the best choice for your ferrets and their health. It's simply that we are designed differently than ferrets. It will get easier to handle meat, as you go along.

Thanks. I don't feel so alone. Lol Knowing that ferrets were strict carnivores was something that I had to agree to when I decided to take her in, and as with all of my pets, she deserves only the best that I can possibly give her to help her live as long and as healthy as possible. She came into my life at a very difficult time, but her personality helps keep me from dwelling on the things that have happened. I've even convinced my sister into possibly getting a little ferret herself. She is my surrogate daughter to help me cope with the one I lost.

It sounds like you will be a wonderful ferrent. Your girl and you will build a lovely bond and have so much fun together. Your sister and her ferret can have playdates with you and your little girl. I've very sorry for the loss of your daughter.
