Hi (I hope this is the right place to post this)...
So I've been using white vinegar and water at various concentrations to clean things around my house that my ferret will come into contact with, but I really hate the smell of vinegar. I'll use it if it's necessary, but I was wondering what other people use to clean things. I'm talking mainly about cleaning bedding, cages, floors and things like that, but if you have any other cleaning tips they'd also be appreciated. Thanks.

I use the vinegar and water for the cage and floors, or whatever wide left surfaces need it, and a non allergenic detergent for their bedding.

Thank you. If it's non allergenic for people is it usually ok for ferrets? Xx

You can also use baking soda diluted in water.

Thanks for the info both of you. I'll get an unscented laundry detergent and I'll try the baking soda and water instead of vinegar and water. I just really hate the smell of vinegar xx

DO not use lysol. My vet said it was toxic to ferrets.

I use Method all purpose cleaner with a lavender sent. I love the way that faint lavender smells with Ferret. It is 100% animal safe and it cleans up their messes wonderfully. I feel like it works so much better than anything else I've tried. I hate the smell of vineagar too, so I don't use it! I have also found the the other all natural pet safe cleaners both do not clean up ferret glue poop or smell well with the natural aruma of the lovely ferrets we love <3

One small caution note: Pine is a common allergen to ferrets. Remember to check the ingredient labels. Alot of "natural" cleaners" use Pine. I love the smell of Pine, oh well...anything for our little guys.

Those are really good tips. Thank you for them. I'm still getting used to this. Much prefer to just avoid making the mistakes in the first place rather than having to correct issues later if he has a reaction so it's great to get everyone's input. I like the smell of pine too but will totally avoid it Xx

Quick question when you blend the vinegar and water do you mainly have it portioned to more wather, or vinegar, or a balance of both? Also do you just simply have it in a bucket and whipe it down? (while the little rascals run out of the cage of course ^-^ ) or do you mix it in a spray bottle and spray and wipe it down?

I use a spray bottle with about 25% vinegar.

It's not a home recipe but I love my Go Green spray. It cuts through even the hardest poop and the smell.

Xx Sorry I just looked at the bottle again and its Green Works. Its a company that makes cleaners that are safe for the environment and animals. Its made from natural ingredients. It smells nice and is not tested on animals.
