Is ferretone an except able vitamin supplement? I want to start them on a raw diet but I know that it will take some time to transition them from kibble to raw so in the mean time I want to make sure that they are getting proper vitamins. Will the little bit of raw they get while they transition to full raw be enough or should I mix ferretone with their kibble?

If you start the transition to raw using the soup recipe from the forum, you don't need supplements. The soup is nutritionally balanced.
Ferretone/ferretvite are very bad for ferrets. Ferretone has carcinogenic ingredients, and ferretvite is loaded with sugars, which they should absolutely not have.

I wish that companies Actually made healthy and proper food and treats for animals. It's extremely frustrating. Maybe those that are not willing to go through the effort of raw diet would have healthier pets. In the end it all comes down to what you will do to protect your fur babies but there will always be those who don't put in all the effort.

It's a shame really, but most of the companies are not really in it for the animals per se, but just the profit. When I had my first ferret, Zupreem was recommended to me as a very good kibble for her. I later found out that was not the case when I got my current round of ferrets. I also found that the grain-free Zupreem, which theoretically sounds like it'd be better, was causing bladder/kidney stones that were killing ferrets due to the use of peas instead of grains. Wysong Epigen 90, which was considered the best kibble, changed their formula and resulted in diarrhea for many ferrets. I used kibble for a little bit but all the issues with it and the companies' cluelessness regarding ingredients made me realize raw was the way to go, no matter how much it squicked me out to handle.
For treats, you can give salmon oil, extra virgin olive oil, or my crew's favorite, coconut oil. Just a half teaspoon every 3 days or so, as oil can make their poop runny. You'll find that once they try it, they usually love it more than ferretone, as impossible as that seems!

Just regular salmon oil from the drug store? It's really hard for me to get good kibble in Canada I was feeding evo but it was discontinued here so I switched to zupreem it's so far the best I could find here only I do know about the peas so I buy the corn free bag that doesn't have peas in it but I really don't want to feed kibble so I'm going to start them on the soup so I can get them on a raw diet.

I personally have not tried salmon oil so I'm not sure of the acceptable brands - some have additives, so if you do see it at the store, just check the ingredients and ensure the only thing listed is the oil itself, and no additives.

In the end it all comes down to what you will do to protect your fur babies but there will always be those who don't put in all the effort. I do also. It is getting better than what we saw, only ten years ago. The big problem is that the pet food manufacturers want to appeal to the owners. Every animal happily loves sugar and the owners see that and continue to buy bad products. Just like regular parents, pet owners can't resist a treat now and then. It gives everyone such pleasure to offer it and see their pet get excited over a treat. Before you buy anything for a ferret to consume, check the ingredients on the back. You'll be surprise at what they put into that stuff and then label as vitamins or healthy.

I wish pet store were also more trained about ferrets. I think people buy a them and then they get so over whelmed with how to take care of them they just give up and give them away. I see it so much where I live tons of ferrets of Kijiji that they have only owned for a few months. Whenever I see someone purchase a ferret I try to give them help it's not hard once you get the hang of it and learn how your ferrets like things. I have rescued lots of ferrets I joined 3 ferret nation cages together and have 8 that sleep in there and it takes me about 20 minutes to clean because I've taken the time to learn from them. Just like when they free roam my house you learn so very interesting things haha they can pretty much squeeze their butts into anything.

We use a few drops ferretone only as a diversion when we trim nails. It's specifically targeted to enhance skin and coat, so it's not really adequate as a general supplement.

^correct. Same thing with sugars. The salmon oil would do the trick. Just a tad at a time.
