It won't make them mean, it gives ferrets more consistent energy so he may become more playful. The best thing would probably be a variety of whole prey since each meal is naturally balanced, but this can be very expensive or emotionally difficult. Frankenprey is a good option, you feed meats and organs that are usually available in large part from grocery stores. Some good threads to get started with are: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/145/raw-soupand holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/146/meat-bone-organ-weekly-menuFor the raw soup, it's more consistent to weigh the main 3 ingredients to maintain the target ratio, ie: 8 oz. chicken thigh meat 1 oz. liver 1 oz. heart 1/2 tsp of ground egg shell or bone meal (water to allow the ingredients to blend well) The second thread is what you would try to transition to after the ferrets accept the raw soup even when you thicken it (add less water) or leave larger meat chunks.

Hi and Welcome to the HFF That's a common misconception. Feeding raw does not lead to aggression. Most of us find that our involvement in their meals and teaching them to eat new foods leads to a bond that brings even more snuggles and kisses. How old is your Ferret and what is his name? Ferrets imprint on their food somewhere around six months to a year. Young ones will happily eat new foods and eat everything and alot. The problem with kibble is that Ferrets are carnivores. They are not designed to process fruits/grains/starches and carbs. Kibble is full of this. That leads to disease later in life. They have smellier and bigger poops, they tend to be slightly dehydrated and have coarser fur. They smell less and often get a grape kool aid scent on a proper diet. You have several choices in feeding. The Natural diet includes, a Frankenprey menu that is designed to mimic eating whole prey. Commercial grinds Whole prey FDR (freeze dried raw) The most expensive option. If you choose to feed kibble, and we are a holistic forum, so we discourage that, we can help you find a good quality kibble as opposed to one of the poor quality ones that are so easily found. Take a little time to look at the different options. We have a mentoring program available that is free. You can look at the switching threads and see how that works. We ask that you don't post to those. There is alot of info on the Home Page under Natural Diet. Don't hesitate to ask questions and I'll happily link any info that you request. We also love to share stories and pictures. We talk about all kinds of ferret issues from feeding to litter boxes, stimulation and enrichment and just the general silliness and happiness that they bring to us. Have fun and see you around the HFF (dance)
