So last week after his root canal I noticed a bunch of symptoms from koufos. He is still losing weight. He is grinding his teeth, He was pawing at the roof of his mouth.
We made a call to the Vet and had to go pick up more meds.
Koufos is now on.
.25 ml of Biomox twice per day
.5 ml of Sucralfate twice per day
.1 ml of Famotidine twice per day
.03 ml Buprenorphine twice per day
1/4 of 15mg tablet Mirtazapine every 3 days
For the past day we have had to syringe feed him. He is down to 1 lb 12 oz and still dropping, He still has enough energy to fight us during feeding and medication time. he has green liquid poops (may be caused by the meds).
he is still well hydrated and still drinks on his own. but the weight dropping is concerning, If I feed him soup on his own he will take about 3 to 4 laps at it and then run off, the only way to get him to eat is to syringe feed him.
anyone have any advice as to how much I should be syringe feeding him at a time, I don't want to overdo it.

It sounds like he's in pain. He's on meds that would stop ulcers from forming but I would be demanding that the vet do something for him. There is something seriously wrong and his reaction is similar to a pain response. Perhaps the root canal has become infected (though the meds should prevent this...unless its a bacterial strain that is resistant to the drugs you're using) ciao

Green poop is a very non-specific sign. It just means that food is moving through too fast. The normal brown color seen in feces is the end product of break down of old red blood cells. The pigment goes through a green stage called biliverdin before it becomes brown (called stercobilin). So if it goes through at an accelerated rate, it never breaks down all the way and has a green color to it. Anything that accelerates passage of food or causes diarrhea can result in green color — ECE, rapid food changes, lymphoma, just about anything...

Yeah it sounds to me like is mouth is bothering him still, like eating is causing him pain. I would get him back to the vet to check his tooth. I would call the vet in the meantime to see if I could increase his Buprenorphine dosage for pain. I'm no vet, but I'm wondering why he's on an appetite stimulant and sucrulfate and pepcid. He obviously wants to eat, but he's uncomfortable when he does, unless the other meds can cause ulcers? Not that I know of, short term. Did your vet suspect ulcers?

I've only had one root canal necessary. I hurt afterwards and was nauseous from the meds. It sounds like Koufos has the same symptoms. Of course, it's a holiday weekend. I hope you can find someone to see him. Your vet should have an after hours answering service, if they aren't open on a Saturday. All my best to Koufos and you. It's so hard to watch them hurt.

after the root canal was done the gum around the tooth was red and inflamed, In fact it was also red and inflamed before the root canal. Now the gum looks better not as red as it was, So it seems like it is healing.
The Famotidine is to increase stomach acid. The vet told us yesterday to stop giving that to him to see how he does.
not sure why we are increasing his stomach acid than then giving him Sucralfate to protect the stomach from the acid and before feeding.
He has an appointment on Friday to check out his tooth.
the vet does suspect a stress ulcer. Perhaps due to the surgery. I will try to get a picture of his tooth. when the other half gets home from work.
I suspected his tooth was bothering him from the beginning, that is why we had the root canal done. So either there is still pain in his tooth or he has some other pain.
He has been free roam for the past couple of weeks and he is now doing something strange. Hi is going in his cage and going to the top level and cage raging (chewing on the bars and yanking on them with his teeth.) Even though the cage is wide open on the bottom level. I pick him up and he goes back up there and does it again. Then I take him out of the room and in our bedroom and then he curls up and goes to sleep.
I am wondering if he is trying to remove the pain in his mouth by biting and yanking on the cage bars.
When he starts pawing at his mouth he only does that when he goes into the box with the starch packing peanuts. He will bite at one and then paw at his mouth. otherwise he does not paw at his mouth. even after eating. He does grind his teeth while eating or while I am syringe feeding him though. Once he is done eating and he rubs his face off he does not grind his teeth anymore.
I have been weighing him daily and since we started syringe feeding him he has not lost any more weight, Not gaining either. He has a lot of energy for a starving ferret though.

Definite stomach upset but it could be the meds too. There is definitely something wrong. I wish we could offer you more insight. If he didn't have the tooth problem I would be almost positive he had an ulcer...but he's on the same meds that would be offered to treat an ulcer ciao

That does look sore, so that may be your answer and it may take time before it doesn't hurt a lot ciao

The one that was extracted looks like it is healing ok. My concern would be that the root canal didn't clear all of the internal infection.
