Hello,
So I'm from Bucharest, Romania, where unfortunately ferrets aren't so popular ( Bucharest has about 2,5 milion people and just about 500 ferrets ). And i'm a vet student ( in my 4th year out of 6 ).
I have 3 neutered ferrets ( 1 female and 2 males ), and recently i have bought my 4th ferret, which the old owner said that she was mated with a hob and that she is pregnant. Unfortunately he didn't had the exact date when they mated because they were kept togheter for about 2 weeks. (but after my calculations, somewhere around this week, early next week she shoul've delivered the babies ).
The day she arrived, for the first hours she was very kind ( licking us and playing around), but suddently she turned very agressive ( biting and not letting go, she even drew blood from my forehead and thumbs) and she remained like that until now.
I tried doing and ultrasonography to her in the clinic where i work but unfortunately i have a 5Mhz ultrasonograph and i couldn't see much, as for ferrets a 6,5-7Mhz ultrasonoghraph is needed. So i couldn't determine if she is really pregnant or not.
About 2-3 days ago she started having a white-milky vulvar discharge, but wasn't sure if is normal or not ( because her breasts starting getting bigger also, and i was able to palpate her uterus ).
Today, just 10 minutes before i started writing this post i observed that the discharge changed it's color and it's a little bit more abundent. I'm attaching some pictures of her, waiting for your opinion. Is it normal or does she have pyometra or estrogen toxiemia ?
PS: Here, beeing so few ferrets, and most of them neutered, the phatophisiology is not really known, so vet's have little knowladge about them.
