Hi all! As the title of the thread says, I'm looking some information regarding kefir and their effects on ferrets (for the ones who tried it). I'm using it on myself and shared it (milk one), and the improvements are incredible. There are several scientific studies (done in rats and some low-risk patients) that shows the results. ( www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25905057 - www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25807443 ). Those are some examples but there are plenty more in the same database. I've been told since the kefir actually "eats" the lactose, it's a safe product for lactose intolerant (such as our little fuzzbuts are). Anyways I wanted to know experiencies over here, which fermentation do you share with your little ones? (24hs-48hs-etc). Which milk do you use? (I've read that the goat milk is better than the cow if the person is intolerant.. but perhaps is the same). How much is safe for them?. Did you see any improvement? I'm tagging you Heather because I've read you tried it before (in an older thread) . Hope you don't mind. Thanks a lot to all in advance for the help!

I have made my own. I have given it to one of my ferrets who had a tummy upset. It worked quite well. you only need to give them a bit. I gave him just enough to coat my finger.
I used organic non homogenized milk from grass fed cows.

I've used it in the past and was quite pleased with the results. I use goat only....and I use it when my little ones are very ill (Fun-go was one of the last ones to get it on a regular basis) or if they've had antibiotics. It has a strong taste so don't expect them to take to it right off. I only use a tsp per day at the most. Some of my guys got loose stools from it so indroduce gradually. I do not use it if my little is having loose stools. ciao

I have used it before. I use Lifeway plain kefir during times that my ferret has GI issues or after giving antibiotics. It works great!
