Well sure enough, Noodle is eating chunks of meat with her sister. Wow they eat a lot! I'm going to leave chicken wings in their cage tonight when I leave for work to see how they handle it. I may not even need a mentor... I'm lucky I got babies.

That's so exciting!
I personally wouldn't recommend leaving bone-in meat unattended their first time, the reason being when my girls first started eating bone they would try and slurp it back like they did with meat and end up "choking" on bone and gagging it back up. Not that I ever had to intervene, but you never know what might happen. It also helps to smash up bones a bit in the beginning to help them along.
This is how I smash up bones: (It's quail so the bones are a lot smaller and softer, but it's the same principle with chicken)
Good luck!

My beasties are 4.5 months right now and I put out 6oz each feeding and they usually leave an oz or less each time though sometimes they eat it all and I feed them twice a day. Hope that helps you to start of with, it is definitely a trial and error process though.

Also, apparently kits suddenly stop eating a huge amount practically overnight, so don't worry if they start eating a lot less at any point. My girls eat about 1.75 oz/day each

Why on earth would they through away your meat? (headwall) That is an expensive mistake!

Because and I quote 'it was gross'. It wasn't too bad since it was the last of it and I was going to go tomorrow to get more anyway, but like... ugh. I'm going to have to buy a mini fridge to keep all my meat it. Also Panda and Noodle are currently eating whole chicken wing! I broke up the bones so we'll see how they handle it

Mine are getting their first chicken wings tonight, mind you they have been chowing on duck necks that I do not smash for over a week now. I'm sure they will do great and I'm going to try the shower curtains hook trick to keep them from stashing in the littler box tonight. I have to say I am very happy I got kits they definitely make the transition easier!

I've run into a new problem. When my fuzzers are eating big chunks of meat, Noodle wants to eat whatever piece of meat that Panda has, so they fight REALLY loudly. It's woken me up a few times and it carries across the house... I leave out enough for both of them to have their own piece but Noodle wants what Panda has...
And also Panda won't eat chicken bones and has decided that they belong in my bed and in my shoes. Silly babies

Missy and Sir kind of do the same thing but they are not loud about it. One night I literally watched them for at least 3 minutes steal each other's duck necks. Missy would take one and go to her stash spot and then Sir would take one to his and then they would go steal it from each other's spots, over and over again! It was adorable. Last night when I put the wings in their cage I ended up separating them so that there was a wing on a shower curtain hooked to the side on 2 different levels because they were doing the back and forth thing keeping each other away from the wings and neither of them were actually eating. Separating them like that seemed to work well. Of course the fact they were hooked to the cage made it so there was no stashing or stealing either. I like the hook idea!

Yeah, I avoid stashing at all costs! Yuck! As for the food fights... That's a good thing, because it means your ferrets love their meat enough to want to argue over it! As long as it doesn't get into true aggression (either ferret soils themselves in fear or blood is drawn) it's just an extension of ferret play-fighting, just like they enjoy tackling and wrestling with each other I get the noise part isn't so good though :\

Yeah its just keeping me awake but as long as they don't hurt each other I can deal with it.
I need to get some shower hooks though

So I got gizzards and small beef intestines... We'll have to see how that goes. So far they don't seem interested but they're also sleepy. Not much a fan of the smell of intestine... But that might be because I've got food poisoning and everything makes me nauseated. xnx Its been a terrible week so far. I'm glad I have my little fuzzies to help me feel better
