hi everyone few weeks ago i adopted a one year old male albino.he seems to eat fine plays a lot and is not underweight or letargic in any way. what concerns me is that under his eyes is always wet not pus stuff just normal watery tears.and there is this kind of wheezing that is coming from the nostrils not from lungs. you can clearly hear its coming from the nose. if id doesnt pass i will take him to a vet but in the meantime i would like to get some suggestions of what it might be

Maybe he has allergy to the food or bedding he is on or even litter . What kind of litter is he using? r u spraying cages and cleaning with perfumey stuff.
Anything around him exuding perfumes?
keep cleaning products very simple and wash bedding in perfumeless detergent to see if this helps.
Do not let feces and ammonia build up in litter box
Always a trip to vet is good

he was already like this when i got him. i told his previous owner and she said she used to wash him frequently so my guess is that he got a cold since in europe spring has only just begun. i am using cat litter with no odors and some t shirts as bedding which i wash with normal soap not detergents.will soon take him to a vet i hope its nothing serious.

It can't hurt to pay a visit to the vet. A common allergy is pine. Do you have any pine trees and open windows, or did she? It sounds a little like an allergy, and could be an intolerance to a particular food. I would take him to the vet to be sure. You know how miserable it is to be sneezy, wheezing and have watery eyes.
I don't know if you already know this, but you don't need to bathe a ferret unless they get into something stinky. That will strip their natural oils and leave their skin dry and itchy.

I would be vetting just to rule out upper respiratory conditions. Ferrets can have pneumonia but show very little signs of symptoms. They require an xray to rule out but I would be vetting just to make sure this isn't a problem ciao

yes his previous owner use to keep him outside and the climate just changed now it was still a bit cold weather when i got him. also he was sleeping on aspen shavings when i got him and didnt have proper litter tray. could be those conditions maybe now he sleeps in a bigger cage near my bed i eliminated shavings using odorless cat litter in a small dish and give him clothes that i dont use that i was with soap we use to wash ourselves. today its his second week with me when i open his cage he plays and jumps like crazy. also he doesnt sneeze or cough luckily he has just that bubbly noise from the nostrils even tho nose is clear just his eyes are pretty watery and considering he's albino its more noticable

Depending on the cat litter, it could be producing dust that would aggravate the ferret's breathing.

Paper pellets seem to be ok...I have two of mine on about three paper towels per litter box, but may baby would not go on them nor potty pads, so i bought paper pellets, but these have baking soda incorporated in them. The smell is a little strong--not perfumey but something else.
Going to see if i can find some without baking soda after these r gone.
Hope he gets better soon.

i used to put newspapers but they end up in the middle of their cage after a minute that i put them but i think they are most hygenic and easy to clean. a petshop near us has like wood chips are they safe or they can swollow them? its meant for cats etc but dont know if its good for ferrets though

Wood chips are not recommended for ferrets. Most wood is treated and that will cause respiratory problems: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/17720/opinions-on-enclosureYou might consider puppy pads for the litter boxes. Mine are free roam and that's what I use. They can be expensive in a two story house with a pad in each room, but for a cage, it wouldn't be too bad. Just leave a poop on the pad, so they understand what the pad means. Here is a link with some discussions on litter: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/946There are quite a few threads on litter. Sometimes the easiest way to search is to use your browser search bar and type in Holistic Ferret Forum Litter (or what's a good litter) and that will pull up all the threads about litter.

I do not know if you have a dollar general store in your area, but you can get quality puppy pads, and they r cheaper too.I think for $8 u can get 32 pads. At petco it is like $10 for 10 pads--- if I remember correctly.
