The five seem to be doing all right. They eat and sleep and complain when they're not doing one or the other. Every time Dara moves and dislodges someone from a nipple all h*ll breaks loose. I'm going to try to get some weights tonight if I can coax her out of the sleep sack with some baby food/goat milk mix. If not I'll be a bloody mess.

I was able to check sex this morning when I did weights. Four jills and one hob. All but one of the jills had gained a couple of grams since they were weighed last night. I will recheck weights tonight so it's around 24 hrs after the first weighing. All in all, they seem to be doing well.

I had to take Dara to the vet this afternoon. I'd been uneasy about her all day and shortly after noon she went to the litter box and expelled a dead kit. So, off to the vet. That was the last and only one so she got a shot of Lutalyse to flush out the gunk and will be on Clavamox for the next couple of weeks. My biggest concern after I knew there were no more kits was that she might be so stressed by the whole thing she might forget she had kits to take care of but that is not going to be a problem. She's currently in the nest with the babies and no one is fussing. Well, except for the random outburst of squeaking.

Oh, how scary. It's great that she expelled the kit on her own. Was she showing problems or symptoms? You mentioned you were uneasy what were you looking for? Fingers crossed that everything is ok now and the wee momma can get down to raising those 5 wee meepers. ciao

Sorry for the delay in updates. I work weekend nights so there's not much chance to post. All are doing well--kits are growing by leaps and bounds. The hob weighed in a 38 gm this morning and the little runty girl is up to 22 gm. The other girls are packing it on too. They're really very quiet for kits. Since there isn't much competition they have full bellies all the time and it's hard to squeak when you're about to pop.
As for why I was worried about Dara, she just didn't act quite right. She was very restless and kept going to the litter box and straining. She would cry when she did, much like while she was in labor. Because she still was as it turned out.
She hates her medication and it's becoming a real battle to get her to take it. This will be a long two weeks. She's also decided mouse is the only acceptable thing on the menu. I'm willing to go along for now, but that's going to have to change in a few weeks.

Momma demands....and we worry so much for them at this time we're willing to let them eat almost anything as long as they will eat it lol. It's wonderful that the wee ones are continuing to grow and are healthy. They say that the wee ladies don't nurse their little one until all have been birthed. In this case was she nursing her little ones or was just having problems settling to do anything? It would be so nice if they could invent a medication that would have a favourable flavour poor wee mite ciao

That was the biggest thing. She wouldn't stay with the kits long enough to let them eat. She was in and out, in and out.

I'm glad she got by that scary event. Is there any concern about nursing while on antibiotics?
