My boy Tulkas is slowly going yellow on his extremities, and my girl Kat has a little on her previously white bib. I don't bathe them with shampoo except for Tulkas once when he covered himself in poop. I know their diet is balanced, and that their coats change color seasonally, but they also smell a lot more than they used to. Will this balance out as the season progresses? They don't smell "bad" it's just more noticeable than it used to be. Not sure what is a normal variant as this is my first seasonal change. Everywhere I've looked online blames their diet, but they're good on that front. I put Revolution on them recently, can this cause a temporary oil overdrive perhaps?

Riot got really gold when the seasons changed and he's just starting to whiten up. Tundra is almost all gold (under his brown) with the exception of his face and Arbor is starting to yellow as well. I think it's just the seasons, extra shedding, extra oil, extra smells. My guys finally stopped detoxing about a month ago and then seasons changed and they smell again.
I've been super diligent about cleaning their blankets and hammocks. I've gone from once a week to every five days. I don't mind the smell but my fiancé does.

Okay *phew* I'm relieved! I have their favorite hammocks and bed in the dryer now and I just washed them about 5 days ago! As long as it's within the realm of normal I'm good. All the stuff I was googling suggested health or diet issues. Kinda like how every sniffle in a human that you google is obviously cancer. I should just not google.

We've noticed our ferrets are getting a little more wiffy too, and they are defiantly shedding. Hope it's a temporary thing! I wash their bedding at least twice a week, but mine aren't great at using the litter box!

If you've got intact hobs and your in the northern hemisphere your wee ones aren't going to start smelling any better any times soon * As far as colour goes...I don't think white is in an intact ferret's vocabulary (unless recently bathed) ciao

He's not intact, he's just doing his best fake out I guess! More time in the rice box for him, as long as he's healthy he can go full "ginger biscuit!" I love that term btw, I laughed

I'll be honest, I was a little put off white ferrets since they go so yellow, but those boys are gorgeous! I also thought it was just white ones that turned really yellow but I saw a ferret who looked very much like my Bolin but where Bolin is sort of creamy he was like a banana. He was intact though and bigger than Bo too.

I think I was momentarily falling prey to my American instincts. "Something smells more/different and has moved away from pristine white....is it dying?" It's on the brain because of something I read about culture and scent that made an impression, and here I am acting it out. Good times.

My boys were definitely more yellow recently. It was more noticeable in Liam since he is mostly white. And both of them have been more on the musky side lately. I love the smell of a healthy ferret so it doesn't bother me. Glad to read that is seems to be normal and is happening with other ferrets.
