Thanks guys, still not heard from the vets. Going to give it another hour as they are usually at their busiest at this time, then if I still haven't heard anything I'm going to call them. I think I've done well not to keep pestering them.

Hmmm, considering Metacam has some really bad side effects that could indeed be the issue. It's horribly corrosive on the stomach (like all Nsaids). You may be dealing with an ulcer. Please keep us posted ciao

Thank you all for your well wishes and thoughts. It's been a rough day, well a rough year will all the illnesses and deaths we've had. He's had an antibiotic injection and an anti sickness injection and after they had kicked in wasn't sick again. He also had another very loose stool and the vet said it was mucousy too. He's home for the night as the vet is happy that I will give him the care that he needs and he will be happier in familiar surroundings. We've just settled him into bed, I've not fed him yet as they gave him some food while he was there, something similar to carnivore care. I don't want to mix raw food in his stomach so will give him an hour or two before I feed him. He's had a drink though, out of his favourite bucket (don't you know bowls are too boring!). I've got some tagamet to give him, the vet said 3 times a day would be idea but if he's doing well he can just have it twice. They gave him a dose just before we left, so at about 6.30pm so I plan on giving him some at about 2.30 so it's every 8 hours to start with.
The vet said there is two probable possibilities, first and simply it's the metacam and the solution will be the tagamet and not giving him anymore metacam - simples! The second will be that he doesn't improve or has relapses when off the tagamet and it's likely to be the underlying condition that caused his enlarged spleen, an illness or infection of some sort and they would have to do blood tests and take biopsies to figure out what. He said he's rather not do that just yet and to give poor Bolin a few days to rest. I'm to call him in the morning with an update of how he is, and if he's repeatedly sick or vomits up blood during the night to call him ASAP.
My job tomorrow is to call the insurance and see if they will cover any of this or class is as a pre-existing condition as his spleen must have already been growing when we brought him home, and this illness is either because of the medication from that or the thing that caused his spleen to grow. I'm hoping they will just pay me back, if not we will have to continue to pay, after all there is no other option.

Good luck with the insurance company, hopefully they will pay up. Don't give them any excuse (provide only the medical information), don't provide any well maybe this or that...they will find a way not to pay. Don't fall for light chatter in a phone or in person interview. Give your wee brave boy a hug and tell him we're all pushing for him to get better ciao

Thanks. He seems brighter this morning, woke up to the sound of his destroying the puppy pads in his attempt to dig out of the playpen, he's not a climber at all! He's now asleep in a tunnel in the hall way, back to hating being in a cage of any type so that's a good sign. It's not fun trying to get him to take his medicine, but a bit of salmon oil helps.

I need some help, he didn't like his medicine but mixed with some salmon oil he took it while shaking his head a lot, and did the same for his next dose. This last one was horrible. I'm not sure if it's because he was already awake this time and was sleepy the last too times but he was worse with the second dose than the first. I end up wearing most of it. For this one he's just had he took one lick of the salmon oil and that was it, clawing at his face, running off, when I tried him again he sprayed me! I stink! He then did a poo (bless him he was desperate to get back into his pen to do it as well). I tried again hoping it was just because he needed a poo and I wanted to get it down him before I jumped in the shower and boiled my clothes! :PWNED: <<-- that's me with the medicine and Bolin's very loaded 'gun'. Nope, same, so I tried to syringe it up and no, clawing at his mouth, wiggling like crazy and I don't want to hurt his stomach. I gave up and pulled up another dose, no oil (with the oil I'd poured out it would have been about 1 1/2 syringes full, that would have been torture). I got my OH to squirt it in the side of his mouth while I restrained him carefully and he freaked, clawing like mad at his face, hissing, rolling around. It was horrible, I'm amazed he wasn't sick, he did spit back up some of the medicine which went flying all over me, glad I had waited for that shower! I'm dreading his next dose and will need to bribe my OH to get up with me to help (pizza is already on it's way!) How can I make this easier? Is there another medication I could ask the vet for? He's currently on 0.2ml of tagamet, of which most landed all over me. There has got to be an easier way.

You can try bundling him. I guess the best way is to say swaddle him. You take him in a towel and tightly wrap him with his front legs at his side. you then tuck him and administer his meds Have another syringe ready with his favourite oil in it. There is no easy way to do this, it's just the lessor of the evils and to try and not let him hurt himself. ciao

Thanks, it worked better this morning having his wrapped in a blanket and having the salmon oil ready to give straight away. No clawing just lots of licking and I managed to stop him shaking his head and spraying it everywhere too, so I'm glad he must have got pretty much the full dose. Thanks again

Just wanted to thank you all and update on Bolin. He's like a different ferret, I mean he's still the lazy lug (and in a way I'm glad) but when he is awake he's more interested and seems to have a shoe fetish. I his bottom sticking out of one of my boots and he was making a strange noise, as always he was laid on his back. I pulled him out only to have him play bite (his play bites are so super gentle) my hand then wrestle my shoe. Mako as always ran over, heaven forbid one of the others gets attention and he doesn't. I went to pet Mako he also started play biting and next thing I knew the boys were having a good old wrestle right in front of me. I was in shock. It probably lasted about 5 seconds, but that's 5 seconds of playing I've never seen before and both of them seemed happy about it.
(I don't call what Korra does with them playing as although she is trying to play they get hurt and hate every second of it, also all 3 ferrets have played with my and my OH numerous times, just never with each other.)
So now I'm thinking Mako has a friend already, who he loves, just hoping to see some more play and that it lasts long enough for me to get on camera.
Thanks again

I actually feel quite guilty. Someone has swapped out my favourite snuggly ferret and given me... well almost another Mako. Bolin was changed into a... well an actual ferret I suppose. He still gives up cuddles and kisses, but only stops for a nap when he's really tired. He plays, I mean actually plays, runs around, wrestles with Mako, he does a beautiful war dance! I nearly cried the first time he did it, after acting like a goof on the stairs. He demands attention, he follows me around like Mako does, but if I don't talk to him, fuss him, feed him, pick him up or play with him he digs at or bites my feet. Gently, and so far I've done exactly what I shouldn't and laughed at him, picked him up, and kissed him.
I feel so bad that from the first time I met him he just slept, he'd have a wonder about, eat, drink, go to the loo then back to sleep. I thought it was just his character and he was getting on a bit. But no, he must have felt like rubbish.
Watching him now, he's wired. He played for a solid 30 minutes today, before we were lucky to have 10 minutes without him seeking out a bed. He only stopped because I brought their tea up. I'm feel so guilty but also so happy and proud of the amazing recovery my little man has done. I can't believe how much I love that little fuzz ball and thought I couldn't love him anymore but it's amazing that I do. He's such a character, rather than just a teddy. Now I have to wear him out to get my teddy back, and trust me I do! haha Oh and he's so slim and sleek now, no longer a pear. He looks so much happier, and how he runs!
Thanks again for all your help.
