Here is a picture of bleu in his time out ball. I have not had to used this in quite a while, but this morning he gave me a good chomp and latched down on the skin of my wrist. left me with 2 good puncture marks. he just groomed himself the whole time. I am now wondering if 3 mins is enough. lol

We have one of those balls too! I hadn't thought to use it as a time out ball, that's a good option. We thought Kat might be interested but she just went to sleep so now we run tubes through it.

I think if u punish for lengthy times they forget what they r being punished for . quick reaction on ur part and short duration---if u want to do time outs. What about distraction as a deterrent?

Yes, in my experience they do. Riot was put in time out yesterday bc she insisted she must dig in my couch. So after a few stern no's off to time out she went. Let her out and right to the couch she went so back to time out. After her second trip to time out she didn't try it again. Connection made mom 1 ferret 0.

Digging is to a ferret as pecking is to a chicken. For that reason i would use distraction. Do u have a dig box?

Time outs are the best method to discipline. Yes they're very much able to make the correlation between a hard bite and a time out space. I've been dealing with hard core biters for years and this method has stood me well. The time in the sin bin must be short, no longer than 3 minutes and you must be consistent...but it works...very well I don't advocate using these balls as they can seriously damage a ferret's spine. A small cat box is the best solution for a time out space ciao

The funny thing is they play with the ball when they are out. They crawl in it and push it around. But they hate it when they are locked in it. And if they hate it, it works as a deterrent.
I was kidding about longer than 3 mins. I just said that because he was making a point of "so you put me in the ball big deal I will just sit in it and groom myself" Almost like "It is only 3 mins. I can wait it out".
After I let him out he went in his cage and pouted for about 30 mins, almost to say "fine I won't play with you" so I know it worked.
I have such sensitive ferrets whenever they are disciplined, afterwords they go back in their cage curl up and pout.

Every time I let Riot out of his time out bin, he flat ferrets by my feet so that I have to step over him, then he gets up finds me again ans does it again. It's ridiculous. He knows exactly what he is doing too. Little brats they are.

That's a genius idea about running tubing through them! I have two of those balls from my time as a rat owner. I'll have to dig them out of my closet and see what I can do with them.
