Hello friends and lovers of ferrets. I am new to the board and I figured I would introduce myself and my little business, and a little history behind them!
I currently have a business of five (just successfully introduced my two new ladies into my group last night!). I have had a total of 6 ferrets in my lifetime of ferranthood. My first two ferrets were adopted from the Denver Dumb Friends league and were about 1-2 years at the time of adoption. My fiance had always wanted an albino ferret, and that is where my pretty lady Claire comes in. Saw her picture, and drove the 2 hours down their to see them. Of course I knew at that point we were bringing home two more babies. On the way home we picked up a cheap Katee cage and set up everything for them.
By morning I found that the two little ferrets (Leon being the culprit in this case) had escaped and made a home in my couch instead ... Leon managed to snap the bars on the cage and the two had a grand ol' time. Took the Katee cage back and upgraded to something a little more expensive. That worked for a while ...
In the meantime, I found myself looking and loving the little babies in the petco cages. I was falling in love with the little ones that we'd brought home, and well, that was just the beginning!
Two months after we had purchased Leon and Claire (anyone who loves the WHOLE Resident Evil video/movie Series will love this!) I fell ABSOLUTELY in love with my little husky girl Helena (That's what I called her. Her markings were actually Silver Roan). She was at the pet store with her siblings, and she was calling my name. After we reevaluated our finances, I won out and got my little girl! She fit in perfectly and ended up bonded to me. My little angel girl!
So for about a year (once Leon completely trashed the other cage and we decided to return it and go without), they lived in our bathroom basically free roam. They had a baby gate to keep them locked in and they seemed to enjoy it a lot. When we ended up having to move (mostly because of the ferrets, but I could have cared less) We got our two story Critter Nation on sale at Petsmart and moved them into their new home (was relatively cheap at the time we bought it).
So now, about a year and a half after we adopted our two, we met Jake (to be Helena's friend {Resident Evil 6}). Anyway, he was a big sweetheart aged at 2 (we have recently aged him at about 6). This was about a year and a half ago now. Jake was the sweetest happiest little dooker I'd ever seen! A must have.
On September 16, 2014, right around her 2nd birthday, Helena my baby and love passed over the Rainbow bridge from depression at being separated from me. While I loved her like my own child, I do not believe I can ever let another ferret bond with me. My week long vacation (and when I got engaged) caused my poor baby too much stress. And for that I will never forgive myself!
And now, about a week ago today, after they have been fully checked out, I added Princess Peach and Princess Daisy into my business! They are doing well, and I am happy. I am currently dealing with Adrenal in my old man Jake, and hopefully that pans out positively. But there you have it. My history with ferrets.
I have learned a lot over the passed almost three or four years, and am always willing to learn more. Hope you get to know my current five as well as I do <3
