I have been reading about the use of colloidal silver in treatments for dog and humans. Uses for the silver include skin irritations, cuts, eye stains or irritations, and as an antibiotic booster or as a stand alone antibiotic. I read through the one thread pertains to an article for the use of silver, but there are no response from people who've actually used the product... Especially on ferrets.

I found this post, looks like it should be used only for a reason and not daily, and also doses if it's being used: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/13504/colloidal-silverThe search function on Proboards isn't good (to say the least), so what I do is go on Google, and type "colloidal silver site:holisticferret60.proboards.com" into the search there, and it only shows results from this domain. It's wonderful.

If you're going to use it, get the strongest concentration you can. We were using 50 ppm topically on Rosa's ear tumor but it didn't help much, possibly because it was topical, and not oral. I've read a lot of positives about it and nothing negative. There was an extreme case where a guy was taking mass amounts daily for a skin condition and it turned his skin blue.

The one thing to remember...it's not a preventative. Use it as an antibiotic type solution. I've used it a number of times. It does have it's limitations. I've discovered that it's best use is on a pulse type application. It's very good for mouth ulcers...not so good for stomach ulcers. I prefer to use other herbs on cuts and sores...but it can be used to clean a wound ciao

Heather how would you administer it for mouth ulcers? Is it a paste of some kind? Obviously, I'm not familiar with it but I'm curious bc Charlie May have mouth ulcers. He's on antibiotics now for them. Thanks.

I use a qtip. Just dip and administer. You can also use it as a wash and just use a dropper and apply it that way ciao

How about using a mild saline solution for that? It shouldn't hurt the dogs' eyes the way many other things would.

I just want to remind everyone "Everything in moderation." Colloidal silver has its uses in small temporary amounts. It does build up in the body and can cause silver toxicity, despite sites on the internet saying it can't. Feel free to use it, just don't over do it.

It's best used as an antibiotic, but may have other beneficial effects. Since there isn't a wealth of "official, peer-reviewed" studies, you have to do your own research. And FYI, the peer-review process is extremely vulnerable to biased reviewers.

I am wondering if it might be ok for diarrhea. Teddy's had it for 3 days now and it's causing a rash. I have a vet appointment to make sure it's ok in light of his other health concerns. Any input here? I got some that is at 10 ppm.

Is Teddy ill? Lethargic? Not eating? Are you feeding enough bone in his diet? have you tried pumpkin (1 tsp)? If you've tried dietary changes then possibly the CS might help. Dosing orally has always been a problem as there are no actual dosing limits. ciao

For diet I have added bone powder to see if that would firm the stools up-no dice. He eats a dried out cgh thigh bone when he feels the need. For his health see, holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/16411/treating-symptoms-ferret-heart-disease. I got a prescription for 5mg of prednesolone (2.5 per 12 hrs). The vet and I are hoping that helps the symptoms. Does pred react with cs and isn't pumpkin a no-no b/c of the carbohydrate reaction?

When dealing with very loose stools you can use the pumpkin as a possible remedy. It is like the whole blockage protocol. It is a possible remedy that can be used once in awhile. It is not a solution but a possible remedy. Sometimes one only needs that few good stools to make everything right and balance the gutand reduce inflamation. The pumpkin used in this manner is ok. If your vet is using pred, then he suspects a type of IBD/IBS. The problem is that I don't know if pred reacts with CS and though the strong proponents of CS will say it does no harm, if it indeed does work as an antibiotic it can possibly interact with other medicines in a negative manner ciao

Using pred was for inflammation of the nerves that was interfering with his bladder or urinary tract function. He was peeing far too little and swelling up and expelling was ineffectual. It has, I am really happy to say, fixed that problem. Now I have to make certain that it doesn't throw anything else out of whack.
