And another A Plus. Did you change her name? Maybe we should just name that all Pat or Chris or something generic. It's so funny. How did the beef go over. Hopefully, no problems this time?

I did change it after I found out. It was originally Pharaoh, but I changed her name to Arizona.
I got the ground beef, but I haven't tried it with them yet unfortunately. I'm hoping to do that today or tomorrow. For the past few days, I've been giving them CGH whole pieces along with their soupie. Some of them (Woody and probably Snowy) have been eating the whole pieces. Last night they had half of the liver, which they surprised me by eating(or maybe stashing it, but I checked the usual spots). The night before, they had a wing, which they ate half of before stashing it.

That's great. Cornish game hen is such a nice little bird, inexpensive and everyone seems to love it.
I hope they go for the ground beef. If they don't, try offering it for a few meals in a row. You know the routine now, we just have to convince them that it's food.
I like the name Arizona, it's unusual and a cool name (unlike the real Arizona). Arizona is not still with you, is she? You said you "once had a ferret".
Are you noticing everyone eating less now? What about Woody, do you still think his seasons are reversed?
How about Penny? Any changes in her with her lump? Has she been back to the vet for confirmation on Lymphoma?

We tried the ground beef, and everything seemed fine. They must have eaten too much or the beef was bad before when it made them vomit. I just had to dab it on their noses a few times and then they ate it fine.
No, I don't have her anymore. She was adopted by a local agricultural/technical high school which has lots of animals.
Everybody is eating less than they did during the winter, except Woody. He definitely has his seasons reversed. I'm pretty sure hes gained more weight. I'll try to weigh them tomorrow.
Her lump seems to be getting a bit smaller, but its hard to tell. We haven't been back to the vet, but we will if it seems like its not shrinking as much as we're hoping it does.

Another thing, I've realized that some of them may never completely come off of soup(or at least not anytime soon) so I'm going to try to get some commercial raw and get them to eat that. They liked the nature's variety instinct frozen rabbit, but that's expensive so I dont want to use that forever. I'm thinking of ordering them from one of the online places once I get a chest freezer, which will probably be my birthday or christmas present

Geez, I just wrote you a long reply and got an error message. Sigh...
Everyone's weight is looking very good. That makes me so happy. Hooray for the beef eating. It should get easier now to get that red meat meal in them.
When you say Commercial raw, do you mean FDR or Grinds? We want them to get the chewing action, but with some of your older ferrets, I can see why you are thinking of staying on soup or commercial raw. I like the Stella and Chewy's products. They are on my ferret Emergency shelves. Duck, duck, goose and tummy ticklin turkey for feline. The nuggets not the patties.
I have made my own grinds at home but haven't made any ahead of time and tried freezing them.
I've had to share my computer with Paul, his is in the shop. So, if I'm offline for a little more than usual, it won't be for long. You made good progress, maybe I should go offline more often. :wave3:

I also got some veal for them to try. It was on sale for $4/lb. They probably won't be getting it very often but I thought it would be good for them to try this time.
I was thinking grinds because they aren't as expensive. I'll probably try some FDR with them too. Stella & Chewy's is the FDR I've been looking at. I just need to order some. There's a store here that sells it but they never have any when I go there. It's really popular apparently

My husband would have a fit if I gave them Veal and didn't save it for him. His favorite meal is Veal Parmigiana. Your veal was a really good price.
I've only found Stella & Chewy's at one holistic pet store in Nashville. You can look online at their web site and they will show you what local stores carry it. The best prices, that I've seen, come from ordering online.

I'm not sure what happened, but Penny suddenly became unable to use her back legs. It happened yesterday and the vet was closed, so we haven't gotten there yet. I talked to my vet and he will see her on Monday. We're thinking that either the lymphoma spread to her spine or she has cardiomyopathy that he didn't notice before. I have her in the cage now because she's also lost control of her bladder and bowels. I've been cleaning her every few hours. It doesn't seem like she's in pain at all and she is eating and drinking a bit. Everyone else is still fine. They're still having beef for a few more days and then I'm going to try the veal with them.

Oh No, I am so sorry. I hate to say this, but this is what happened to Ponce. It wasn't too long after he was diagnosed with Lymphoma, that he lost the use of his back legs. Then a little while after that, he became almost fully immobile. Our senior members said that possibly the tumor was pressing against his spinal cord. He also didn't seem to be in any pain. Like you, I kept him clean and turned him over to avoid any bedsores. I held him for hours and slept next to him. Keep her close and give her love and comfort. Penny will be in my thoughts.

That's what I'm thinking, but I'm really hoping that's not it. She's still trying to walk around some, so at least she's not completely immobile. I can handle her being paralyzed as long as she still seems like she wants to live. We're going to the vet tomorrow and if the vet thinks there's still some hope, I'll order some tiny dog diapers to make the cleanup a little easier. It'll make it easier to let her have some time out of the cage too.

I will be sending Well Wishes to Penny. With Ponce, I knew he wasn't in pain and was safe with us. I couldn't give up on him and couldn't find it in my heart to take him to the vet for the final journey. He was with me and in my arms at the end. I still feel like that was the kindest and gentlest way for his battle to end. I hope the vet finds something to help Penny. I will be wishing on Ponce's star for her and asking for Penny and you also, to have more time together.

Penny was put to sleep yesterday. The vet was sure it was the lymphoma in her spine so there was no chance of recovery. She just wasn't happy anymore. It was really tough. I held her and kissed her while she got the injections so she knows she was loved. I might not be on here as much for a bit.

I am so sorry about Penny. I had so hoped you would have more time with her. She was so sweet and I will miss her. I know you are grieving. Would you like to take a break on the switching thread, just let me know and when you come back, we can resume. DIP Sweet Penelope. Your Mommy and friends (and me) will always love you and miss you.
