MightyMagnum is gorgeous. His son looks so tiny next to him. We were at Pam's toward the end of July, right before the Bash. They looked bigger to me, than the average ferret, but it would be hard to tell next to MM.
Wouldn't it be fun if alot of us go to the Bash. We'll have to talk sometime in the Spring and see who is going.

I have all meals pre-prepared in baggies in the freezer. If the sitter is less experienced, I label the baggies with days/dates. I always leave detailed written instructions, a list of regular and emergency vets, I leave a note at my vet with the name and contact info of the person who is sitting and my contact info where I will be staying and my credit card # with permission to charge should I be unable to be reached. I make sure that everything is as easy as possible for them and that EVERYTHING is written down. For my more experienced sitters, I'm a bit less organized. lol Right now the boys are being watched by their "Godfather," my best friend. He is super familiar with them and has watched them before so I didn't really need to write all the intructions, I just pointed out where the meat is in the freezer and said thanks, have fun! (giggle) I lucked out this break though - it's not usually that easy! I also check in multiple times a day bc I'm an anxious mamma! ROFL That is a great idea to have the vet keep my credit card # on file, in case something happens. I always used my husband for a sitter, so I never really worried about not being able to pay for an emergency vet visit. If we travel together, and I use a sitter or a friend, that could be an issue. That's a really good point, katt. Thanks for your input!

No, Akane , I don't show. I had my fill of that when I showed dogs. I find that the shows are fun and a great way to meet people that I've been chatting with but I don't like showing. I also don't vaccinate any more than necessary to bring the wee ones' into the country. I'm hoping to be importing some kits this year so I will be coming to the US to pick them up. The Bash is a convenient and fun way to pick them up. Yes, I do breed. Poleys at the moment, possibly 'binos in the future. ciao

Last time I traveled without my ferrets (for my wedding/honeymoon) I left my girls with a friend who has two of her own and get along great with my babies and they all shared a double FN cage, but that was back when and were still on kibble. I hadn't really considered it (I don't go away often) but if I bring them over with their raw, is there a chance they'll just go back to eating kibble if it's available, or not because ferrets are really picky? I would probably just leave really detailed instructions for her, but I am also worried that they might eat the raw and not leave my girls with enough for themselves. Both her ferrets are quite fat and not picky (as a result of being kept in their cage all the time and being fed whatever grocery store food was on sale before my friend adopted them) and eat quite a lot. Thanks for starting this thread @akane as this is getting me thinking about planning for the summer (I will be going away twice for a couple days each for weddings). Hi Celene! <--- I tried to type Celene, but it comes up as ckozee... I know your concern! The last time I went out of town for a couple weeks, I only had two ferrets and they were both eating kibble. So it was easy enough for my husband to take care of them. This time it's a little more complicated than that. I have four ferrets now, and only one of them is on complete Frankenprey. The rest is still in process of switching. I cannot ask him to do what I do... Chase the wee girls with a bowl of soupie all evening, and shove chunky soupie into my lazy chewer boy's face twice a day. I just can't. lol For now I will have him give them FDR and air-dried meat (Ziwipeak lamb). Two weeks won't kill them, and hopefully next time I travel, they are all on Frankenprey, so I can package their each meal for whomever is willing to take care of them. By the way, your babies are adorable! Such pretty faces I love how you used thumbnail pictures!

In fact, I had to deal with my vet giving all four of my ferrets the wrong rabies vaccine. He gave them Imrab-1, which is only USDA approved for cats and dogs. They needed to get Imrab-3 to be legal in my state and qualify for the ferret show. He contacted the manufacture and we ended up giving them the correct vaccine after a couple months. *sigh* Good thing they didn't have any reaction! That is so cool that you breed ferrets! I was glued to Pam's kit cam, and I probably will be again next spring. Do you have a kit cam? It's really amazing to see ferrets being born and grow up. Some kits get so much bigger than others, while some sadly don't make it. Life is just so fascinating.

I'll have to check out your breeding thread, Heather! Maybe it's a good thing that you don't do kit cam. Kit cam can be very dangerous... I ended up with two of the PVO kits! hahaha, Really, who can resist? Baby ferrets are cute, and now that they are adolescent, I'm even more in love with my beautiful hoblets!

Heather's cam is addictive and so is Pam's. I spent a whole summer watching kits. Plus the National zoo has a black footed ferret cam and so does the Phoenix zoo. It's a good thing that I'm retired.
