So Remus just pooped and thiry seconds to a minute later he was still dragging his booty...I picked him up to check and his anus was protruding with just a tiny bit of red...I'm not sure if it was blood or if I was seeing the walls of his anus (if you know what I mean?). As I was watching it seemed to recede and now it looks normal again. Is this a concern? It was just a tiny amount of poop, too. Dark and soft. His appetite was okay this morning and he's acting normal.

Just keep an eye on it. Some ferret take a bit longer or it may have been a bit of an irritation. He may have just strained too hard ciao

Does it matter what kind of sugar? We mostly have raw sugar, which is big crystals. Or we have brown sugar. lol

I've only used plain white sugar on it, but I wouldn't bother if it returns within a few minutes. If you need plain white sugar for this, just go out and buy a coffee and ask for a sugar packet on the side. Keep it in your first aid kit for your ferret. It's just the right size ciao

If it was a one-off, it should not be a big deal and should go back to normal on its own. The dark poop is a bit of a concern, though. If that keeps up it would be time for a vet visit. I wish they sold pee/poop test kits in drug stores so we could at least check for blood. Keep an eye on him for signs of blockage. Prolapse could be caused by straining to poop, though the most common cause is diarrhea.
