Here it is. Fungal infection of the paw pads. Apparently you can use Lotrimin Anti-Fungal Cream to deal with it and is safe for ferrets.

Wow, thank you - Gizmo's doesn't look that bad yet, but it seems like it's heading there. I wonder - do these things progress slowly? Because he had it for quite a while now...
I'll ask tomorrow at the pharmacy what options they have suitable for pets - I found that most of the antifungals here have terbinafin as the active substance, which is different than what lotrimin has, but I hope it does the job too

It could. It all depends on how susceptible they are to it. Just like people, they are all unique.

I bought Lamisil - i'm not sure if it'll cause any problems if he licks some of it. It's a once a day treatment, for a week. As far as I understood, it should work for any type of fungus

Just rub it into his feet and then hold him until it absorbed. Shouldn't take very long. Scott said his crew didn't show any interest in licking it off.

So.. I am a bit irritated now. After using the antifungal - it started to clear out significantly. After only a few days. I am irritated because I went to the vet and I was told it's nothing. I went to the same vet and I was given antibiotic with xylitol for the other one. The vet was recommended to me by a breeder, but I have the feeling that I need to change. I am unsatisfied with all that has happened and I needed to share it. And thanks for your help guys, bitbyter the pictures you showed me were very helpful!

Lol, vets can have a hard time competing with the experience of many, many, many long time ferret owners.

Wow, that's a very extensive list, bitbyter ! It's a good to keep if or better off, when I'll travel with them there or if work will lead us to the US (option that we have open at this point). Now we live in Finland, I have a small list with exotic animal specialists here - I wonder, if there is a list for Europe, I can add them there for other people to make use of it too

Hey, thanks for searching! That's the vet I went to, abbeytheferret6 I always heard she was the best... It's in Finnish - one of the weirdest languages in the world I do have a list of vets in the region I am at - but there's only about 4-5 options, and a 24h emergency (that place is great but extremely expensive)

Sorry about her incompetence, and that you had to pay for it too. I was watching the doggie channel with my daughter's schnauzer today and a vet said not to give anything with xylitol to ur dog, and since you mentioned it ------ I looked it up and the FDA said Xylitol is safe for humans but it can be harmful to dogs and ferrets. I read that in dogs it spikes blood sugar then causes hypoglycemia that lasts for hrs.

Yup, I am on the FB page, thanks! I think I received a pretty good list from here - it's just, there's not many vets... I mean, the number of people in this country is pretty small too, so it does make sense, I guess. abbeytheferret6, yeah, I read some pretty scary stuff about xylitol and dogs, and for sure wanted to avoid experimenting on my ferret!
