My little boy Cyrano is my rescue from a bad start, he's 1.5 years old and was from a home who didn't know proper ferret needs. I am glad his previous owner was smart enough to try and find him a new home. Cyrano had a large cage but was a single ferret, he had 1 hanging cube bed, food and water that was it. He was given free reign to poo on the whole bottom level of his cage. His past owner was a camp worker, so when he was at camp Cyrano was put in his cage and left in the garage for 3 weeks at a time, the owners wife would go in and give him food and water but that was it. His poor cage would be so full of poo by the end of 3 weeks, he had no interaction. He was fed ferretone as if it was food, and cat food.
When I went to go pick up Cyrano he was in his cage and his owner had been home from camp for about an hour. The cage was disgusting, his water bowl had food in it swollen and gross. With talking to the owner he really didn't know. He thought you could treat a ferret like a hamster. It took allot to bite my tongue and just talk nicely with the owner as I didn't want to offend him and he refused me Cyrano. I waited patiently while he cleaned the cage out for me so we could tear it down and put it in my car.
I was so happy the whole drive home that I had Cyrano, the home he came from did what they knew but not what he needed. He had course wiry blotchy fur, he was super small and a little skittery, but not a biter.
First thing I did when I got home was close all my room doors and let him roam! He was so excited! He bounced and chirped and ran and ran until he crawled up to me and laid down at my feet.
Now Cyrano is doing awesome! We are 3 weeks into raw diet transition, today he ate a cube of raw chicken
He has lots of free play, lots of toys and human interaction and a new brother and sister! I am so proud of my little man and how far he has come. I truly feel that he is very happy and grateful for his new life. So proud of my little boy, I just love him to bits!
