Hi, I saw that the soupie recipe called for chicken hearts and liver... what I have on hand due to my anemia is BEEF liver and heart that my mum buys, but I hardly ever eat.
Is this okay for them? Or would it be better to go out and buy chicken organs? (It would be no problem to get, if anything I know my local asian market has them and I go often.)

Beef is a strong flavor and a lot of ferrets don't like it or have a hard time accepting it. For starting the switch I would use all chicken. In the future you can introduce beef.

Thank you! I should be able to go to the store soon and get some, maybe even the butcher? I think I've read posts about people getting the organs for cheap at butchers, so it's worth a try.

Mine are not keen on beef either, they prefer chicks, chickens, rabbits and mice. Plus, if they were in nature, beef wouldn't be a prey they would attack, lol, but you can try for sure.

Beef is fine for them and in fact beef heart is much higher in taurine than chicken. If your little one will eat beef (mine adore it) go for it. Chicken is a milder meat and often more readily accepted but there is no reason why you cannot use beef (I've done a couple of switches using beef). As for small prey being the meats that a ferret will eat if it were allowed to hunt.....Somewhere on the forum is a video of a polecat doing some serious work on a deer carcass. They are hunters but they're not against scavenging and if there was a beef carcass in the field they'd eat that as easily as anything else. Meat is meat in their vocabulary. ciao

Like Heather's ferts, mine absolutely love beef anything. If I give them a choice between proteins, they'll go for the beef first every time.

Mine eat beef heart. It's the only heart, other than those Tyson packs, that I can get at the moment.

Basically if it came from an animal, they can eat it.

all of mine absolutely love beef. It is there non-bone in meat of choice.
BTW
Yesterday I gave them some lamb heart along with the chicken hearts. They went right for the Lamb first.
