As a first time ferret owner, I wasn't sure what to expect apart from what I had learned from research. When I brought my little one home, I was a bit overwhelmed at first, mainly because I wanted to do everything right and make sure she would be happy. They are a lot of work, more than i thought hehe and need a lot of time out of their cage as well as heaps of attention but I can tell you I have never been so in love. She lights up my life and makes me so happy, even if I'm down or having a bad day. She gets attention every waking hour but even so I would still recommend getting 2. I think this was my only mistake (you can't help but feel guilty when they have to sleep alone without a snuggle buddy) so I will be getting a second as soon as I can while she is still young. Ferrets love to steal things but I promise you the first thing they will steal and stash is your heart!

Another good thing about ferrets is how much they help their owners emotionally. I know that people who suffer from anxiety or depression often say that ferrets really help them get through the tough times (I can vouch for that). They are intelligent, and each and every one of them has different personalities. They show you that all the love you give them is worth it as best they can. And once you get one or two ferrets it becomes harder and harder to prevent it from becoming 3 or 4 etc. I would suggest getting two though because then you can observe the bond they form, and how strong friendships aren't really a thing exclusive to humans. And they are prone to having a nearly infinite energy source inside them somewhere, so when there is two they can just play together. They do smell, but all animals smell. I think dogs smell worse than ferrets (even kibble fed ones), and you can always smell when a person has a cat in their house. It really isn't much different. The bills can add up. Unexpectedly, you might have to pay $1500-2000 for surgery because he ate something that was lying around somewhere. Another thing that is important to consider is whether you are planning to move or have major life changes soon, because ferrets live 7-10 years on average (I think) but some can live to be 12 or 13 even. So it is a long time. But a solution if you can't predict your future after high school, is to get an older ferret (maybe from a shelter of kijiji) who will give you cuddles and appreciate your love just as much. I have three ferrets myself, I have two elders at 6 and 5 and a half. And another turbo energized one at 2.5 - 3 years old. I got them all in my life as adults, and I love them life family. I think ferrets are one of the best pets to have Good luck with your convincing
