((sorry, I was so excited I originally posted this in the wrong section!)) Wow, things happen in crazy ways. I have been wanting more ferrets for years, but a combination of things have made me wait to get more. Mostly that the place I am living right now is not ideal for little mischievous critters, and until recently I was gone 50% of the time traveling and competing with my dogs. Things are quiet now, and I am moving in just under two months. The anticipation and waiting another few months has had me SOOO excited and antsy. I think last week was the first time I mentioned to anyone I know that I will have ferrets again soon. One of the people I told was my cousin that I am close with (he's one of my mechanics, handy helper relatives). He actually caught me cracking up watching videos on youtube of ferrets playing (that's normal, right?? lol) a few days ago so I made him watch them until he, too, was cracking up. Well, he just sent me a text saying that one of his friends got a ferret a few months ago as an impulse buy and can no longer keep him. They aren't sure his exact age, but he is under a year old. Probably Marshall Farms as all the pet stores around here have are MF ferrets. Comes with cage, litter, food, etc. and they say he has a sweet disposition. Hopefully they have him on a decent food, but I expect he is probably on MF food and I will be switching him. When he sent me a pic I almost cried. He looks so much like Dante, my last champagne boy Please pardon poor quality night time cell phone pic I'm so excited! Will post more when I get him tomorrow! Now to think of names

You could name him "Bubbly" on account of his coloring.

You could name him "Bubbly" on account of his coloring. That's funny, I almost named mine "Bubbles" because of the champagne thing But I wasn't sure she was actually champagne (she turned out to be cinnamon) and although I liked the name, it just really didn't suit her at all. ETA -- and congrats on your new boy! It's funny how sometimes the universe seems to intervene at just the right time

I watch you tube videos of these darling creatures all the time. I also have a Pinterest board that is all ferret.
I'd like to nominate the name serendipity.

Amok it is!!
I hit the ferret jackpot on this one. He is super sweet, kissy, very friendly and even with the last several weeks of his life having been moved place to place and not being handled for a while he is not at all nervous or stressed. Likes to be held, very calm - then goes bonkers as soon as you put him down and starts weasel war dancing and dooking. Immediately found and stole a sock. Super reliable with litter box use, even the crappy little corner box he had that looked to have not been cleaned in probably two weeks. He is on a not too terrible food (TOTW) so his coat is pretty nice and while he is a little underweight he is healthy. I will start switching him over to raw in the next few weeks, make a small batch of soupy tomorrow.
Too dark for pictures and I *hate* using flash on critters (eye shine bugs me) so I will get and upload some pictures of little Amok tomorrow!
Edited to add: Upon closer inspection, the bag is TOTW, but there is a mix of foods and I found a receipt for Fromm in the bag of "stuff" I was given. Appears to be another type of food in there also, but have no clue what it is. Decent enough that I will give whatever is left over to a friend for her cats.

Well can't say the pics I got today are very good lol. I spent most of the day playing with him and letting him show me all the flaws in my ferret proofing attempt. Where there's a ferret, there's a way... haha I trimmed his nails with the help of my dear friend Mr. Fish Oil, introduced him to a dig box, short ferret luge pipe, and just ended with him snoozing in my lap. Only have a few crappy cell phone pics for now, but here he is! And curled up in my sweatshirt

He's adorable and lives up to his name, haha. Seems he is making up for lost time when he was stuck in his cage 24/7 - he really does run Amok when he is out lol. Is loving his new big litter bin. I got a clear sterilite about 12" x 16" ish that fits in the cage and cut a 4" diameter hole. Going to mod the cage to do remote litter box this weekend so he has the bottom level for himself. Going to wait til I move to make him a cage, he's in an 18 x 30 x 30 right now, which is definitely not ideal but is temporary and he has at least 6-8 hours of play/explore time a day now. I already priced everything out for the new cage, oddly enough it won't cost me a whole lot more to build it now than it did 14 years ago. I loved my FN cage, but I can make a 3 level 18d x 36w x 56h for under $100 so I am just going that route this time. Now to make my best effort to resist getting him a friend until the move and bigger cage lol, that's going to be the hard part! Bella I am a total name nerd. I seriously have notebooks full of names. My biggest weakness is latin, I considered the name Praedo which means "one who lives by robbery, brigand, pirate" but the sound of it didn't fit him. My username is Latin, and Ferocia is also my kennel name, and I have a long list of Latin names for future dogs and critters. I even belong to a Latin forum because I know that online translator thingies are hugely inaccurate and even though Latin is a dead language and I am never likely to run into anyone that would know the words were incorrect, I *had* to do my research and make sure the words/names are correct lol

And picture success!! Well, sorta. It's fall, so of course it's raining (not complaining, I love rain and we need it here!) and light is poor. Forced to used flash. Sigh. Here he is, having fun on my bed. Nice color comparison here, the pillow is a dark slate/charcoal stripe. He says, oooh I like this body pillow. It's long and slender.. like a ferret! I think I will rest here for a moment so that I can determine where I can wreak the most havoc. Mom knows I came from Petco because she was given a Petco critter box with a bunch of papers and receipts in it! I like to play in it Yeap, I'm pretty cute. Oh, and I like windows. Mom put me up here to take pictures, she says I can only be up here when she is around to watch me. I think that's stupid, how am I supposed to push out the screen and escape if she is watching? She told me to smile for the camera, but I can't smile, so I just stared at her like I got caught doing something I am not supposed to.
