So hubby and I have had pneumonia He got it first and passed it on to me. Being a teacher he loves to bring home all kinds of fun germs too me. Anyways I know respiratory illensses can be passed on to ferrets, so I am wondering how long I need to wait after I am feeling better to pick them up. I know I have seen that info somewhere but I can't find it.

I don't believe ferrets can get viral pneumonia, just bacterial. From what I've heard that usually occurs as a complication from other respiratory infections. If you are on antibiotics for your pneumonia then definitely keep your distance and do not cough anywhere near them. If they do get sick you need to vet as soon as possible as pneumonia can take them down very quickly. I also believe a chest x-ray is the only reliable way to diagnose pneumonia in a ferret as it is very difficult to hear. Some of the more experienced mentors / admins will be more knowledgeable in this than me. SherryHeatherkatt

They can get the flu but I'm not sure about pneumonia. If in doubt it's always better safe than sorry - have him stay away from the ferrets until he has been symptom free for at least a week and make sure everyone washes hands etc.

Well, I know they CAN get pneumonia. I'm just not sure if it is transmissible from humans.
