I just got covered the whole thing I will get pics of it in a bit. I lost a wee jill to one of those shelves. I've got rid of them entirely. They're the most useless piece on the whole FN and the most dangerous. I don't know what they were thinking when they put these on here, that ferrets live in their cages 24/7 and we could use it as storage? Right now all they are, are a danger to ferrets. They fall through them, trap their legs and like my jill who was attempting to climb the cage, fall on them. ciao

You can either cut up a towel or use smaller kitchen towels. If you have a needle and thread, fold the towel over the ramps and sew it securely underneath.
Our house is free roam, but we have a new little girl and so she is using a cage at night. I'm not used to cages and keep worrying about everything. From reading all the other Ferrents talk about these ramps, I knew to cover them and that's what I've done.
I also cover the ramp into the cage with a towel and then remove the towel at night to close the cage up.

Mine can't get to the actual shelf. I have a big tub of toys on it, random boxes and buckets to climb in, and tubing stuffed in around all of it.

I've been considering building a set of wooden drawers for that shelf.

Do you mean the shelves inside the cage? If they are the older style shelf, midwest makes new ones that are much, much safer. You can order them on their site.

I bought a ferret nation bottom shelf, drilled holes in the corners and zip tied in place. I keep nothing on it because ferrets always manage to drop poo or pee on anything I store under there so why bother?(headwall) lol.keep it empty, no poop. I am so owned. I think they love the rattling sounds the plastic makes as they run across.

bitbyter, no. It's the shelf UNDER the cage that's in question. kraesmom, drawers would be perfect, but they'd have to have a secure latch at my house! My stinker has learned how to open drawers. Post a picture if you build them.

They worry me to death. I have boxes under there for storage, on occasion they may push them off but usually not. You can get some fabric and shower hooks and cover the top with the blanket and hook it around the legs. Or you could get rid of it entirely. I've seen it done here- holisticferret.proboards.com/thread/148
