I tried a crock bowl that clips to the cage but my water diggers and snorklers took care of all that. Im down to tupperware plastic with the lip on it and i shove it down onto an outdoor rug that can get wet. They can dig but are not able to move it. It works for my 8 but so far does not work for my 5. I have to come up with something else.

I use a lock on dish raised up a bit and then I zip tie a large shallow plastic food tub underneath it. That way, when they dig in the dish, it ends up in the tub and they can still drink it.

i really dont want to zip tie anything down because when i clean things, its a pain in the rear to cut them off, then re zip tie... i have to do that with the litter box..

I use a water bottle in his cage, which I know is not the best option. But I also have a small water dish that I give to Francis under supervision 3x a day. He drinks a bunch and washes his face, then digs in it a bit. Then I put it away. I don't have to clean his cage this way... I can only imagine the mess he would make if he had a dish in his cage. He drinks from his water bottle every now and then as well. He pees a ton and it's quite clear, so I know he's staying hydrated this way. I also like to fill up the sink and let him go nuts once a day on top of that.

for people who don't like using zip ties, for my litter boxes I made 2 holes in the lip of it then put a key ring through each hole, attached a clip to the key rings and ta-da easy to remove litterbox that's locked in place, i bet this would also work with tupperware under the water dishes.... i will see if i can find a photo of this creation

You can also get re-usable zip ties. That's what I use. They have a little tab you press on them and you can unzip them.

I'm thinking about maybe trying the small size Neater Feeder for small dogs and cats... www.neaterfeeder.com/Its supposed to reduce splash spills, etc; and I can't help but wonder just how effective it could be for Ferrets. Get the leg extenders so they still havta climb front paws up to the bowls but the front splash guard thing catches all their splashes... I don't know yet though I think my only concern is that Serenity will just climb completely and entirely up into it, sit her butt into the food dish and keep on snorkeling splashing away in the water! lol

with the zip ties, or clips, its not a big deal, i gotta fashion something to stick it to the bottom of cage. one likes to try to dig under it.

We used Velcro under our litter box inside the Cage, and it worked perfectly.

Tey can still slash water out of lock on crocks. I've heard a few people say that spill proof cat bowls work wel for ferrets. Basicaly, the lip of the bowl is formed so that it's inside the bowl and not outside.
