He had problems today though. (For the sake of the log I took below from the CS thread here in holistic healthcare. I don't know that there's a more organized way.) For diet I have added bone powder to see if that would firm the stools up-no dice. He eats a dried out cgh thigh bone when he feels the need. For his health see, holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/16411/treating-symptoms-ferret-heart-disease. I got a prescription for 5mg of prednesolone (2.5 per 12 hrs). The vet and I are hoping that helps the symptoms. Does pred react with cs and isn't pumpkin a no-no b/c of the carbohydrate reaction?

The pred is working like a charm. We are both grateful.

Update: We had a scare, blood in his urine which turned out to be a UTI. So we decreased the pred and added amoxicillin. The towel (I use white towels) I use to catch his urine was handy in tracking the degree of change in urine color. I only say this because my vet wanted to see it when I brought Teddy in. It was helpful for me too while I waited.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I gave the impression that he was taking meloxicam and pred at the same time. I had stopped giving him meloxicam a couple weeks ago. So DON'T combine them. They are contraindicated.
Another note, I think amoxicillin is broad spectrum and can lead to opportunistic infection. The reason I think this is now Teddy audibly wheezes when he sleeps. I could hear it across the room. I put him in a steam bath and that helped. He has more effort when breathing while sleeping, but no audible wheezing. I still am cautious about the business. No blood in his urine and his stool has firmed up.
Do they psychically listen to what we write?!!! Just as I finished typing the above, Ted starts wheezing.

Update: He has recovered from amoxicillin. Pred hurt his GI tract, so we stopped that. I use C... for GI pain when eating, when he'll take it. I use homemade electrolyte to supplement his meat meal and kibble so his stools firm up. He lost a lot of weight from the pred and hopefully I can get him to put it back on. The difficult part is getting him to work his back half. The more he works those muscles the better everything works. when they atrophy, everything is harder-pooping and peeing included.

This is terribly sad to me, but your care for this ferret is touching.

Thanks Abbeytheferret!
If you met Teddy you wouldn't feel sad, you'd want to cuddle and help him. He's a hard core bundle of goofy love. Very head strong. He's my thunder ferret because when he used to run it was more like a horse galloping sound than a pitter-patter sound.
This log is for info gathering, so others can compare and adjust if they have the same issues, but it can sound grim because I'm usually just reporting facts, unless incredibly annoyed.

Ted had two good bladder emptyings today, with water pressure. Yay!
