So my sweet boy Sev has lost a bit of weight. 2 ounces in five days. I was wracking my brain, wondering if maybe I wasn't offering enough food, should I offer more, what if he ate something. But no he was pooping normally. But he seemed to not be all that keen on his meat cubes. So I tried offering him a bit of his meat blend. It's just raw protein with powder eggshell that I would mix with his cubes before I moved him to full cubes. Well he scarfed down the soup, but didn't touch the cubes. So about 20 minutes later (after talking with my friend trying to puzzle it out) we thought maybe it was a mouth problem. I took some more meat soup out of the freezer to thaw and then checked his mouth. It seemed normal but he didn't like me messing with his left side (he cared less with his right but he didn't like it still). So I offered him more soup after I was done and he scarfed it down. So I'm going to have to schedule him a vet appointment in the next week and see what they say.
What I'm hoping for from the community is just general help and, if possible, a video. I want to see a ferret eating raw so I can see if the way Severus eats his cubes is any different from other ferts without mouth related problems. All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I can't stomach seeing whole prey so I'd prefer a frankenprey meal if a video is posted.

Wow, the comparison between the way Sevvy eats and your ferts is quiet a bit. He chews way slower and it seems almost hard for him to chew on things.

I would definitely have his teeth checked out. At the very least you will know if he is having an issue

Yeah I am. I'm going to set up an appointment as soon as one is available. I'm going to have to go to the pricey vet with a bajillion clients (they do all major surgeries, dental, and pretty much everything else under the sun, no other clinic can compete with them) so it might be a week or so before he can get in. But he is happily eating his soupie. I reweighed him today and he's 7.9 now. He looks less skinny too. I'm curious, if one of his bad teeth is bad and it needs to be removed will that hamper his ability to eat meat? Will I have to go back to blending everything?

@zombiegirlxi
Poor Severus, it sounds like his mouth does hurt. I would stick with the soupie blend until he has his vet visit. See what the vet says and then we'll decide what is the best way to proceed.

lol (giggle) Sherry, I would have been flooding the boards with messages, if my Mentee's ferret was at 7.9oz.

As it is my ferret is a pain in the butt and I could use all the help ever. He was so good when we first started soupie, and then weaning off soupie was a pain... It's like he's determined to never use his teeth for anything but toys.

I've mentioned this to you before, my Mika is a lazy eater. Hopefully, the Vet visit will show that nothing is wrong with his mouth and he is just being a lazy eater. In the meantime, I've posted to the Mentors board and they are overseeing our thread.
