Poor old Alice has a prolapse. It was bleeding last night and when I checked earlier it looked like she had some clear discharge as well.
Dar soaked her in epsom salts earlier and she didn't seem to mind, and I picked up some prep h. And another BG tester. She's been losing a little weight and stumbling a bit, but she still eats and doesn't strain to poop. I palpated her pretty good and it doesn't feel like any large tumors or blockage but the belly she had last fall and spring is pretty much gone. Her bum has always stuck out a bit but this is a prolapse. My baby will be 6 in Dec and she's never had any health issues. I'll let you know what the BG is. We have pred on hand, but she may go to the vet because I do't know what the discharge may be, except maybe lymph. I'm thinkin if she's bleeding when I check her I'll try bum blood so I don't have to lance her.
Right before our first vacation in 2 years...

I'm so sorry about Alice's BG :(Are her stools loose? Maybe try adding finely ground egg shell powder or pumpkin to her soups to help firm her stools? That might help with the prolapse. Could she be going into summer mode? I don't remember if your kids eat raw soupie or not, but if they do, I'd add some chicken thighs or duck meat to her soup to help add some fat.

They get raw mixed with ground kibble, about 2/3 meat, plus water to make it mush. Her stools are semi loose. Talked to our vet when she called back about Lupron and she said it could be colitis, so if it lasts till Friday we will probably take her in. This vet always gets back to me. We started Allie on pred. Didn't make it a year without that BID ritual.

Well, we retested Alice first thing this morning, and she was 88. It had been at least 13 hours since her last pred dose. We're thinking her low BG and weight loss could have been due to her being sick (diarrhea) and having no appetite. We're going to hold off on the pred until tomorrow night and recheck. She's eating a bit more but not like I think she should. She's been on 1.25 mg of prednisone BID for about 10 days. IThoughts?

That BG is still low though...borderline right? Pred always holds residual for a couple of days and if she's been on the pred longer than a week she should be weaned off not dumped down....but then you know that. Did you finally figure out what her loose stools were caused from? ciao

I woke her up and she was acting a bit off, but I didn't really give her time to wake up. I got worried so I gave her her pred and then tried to get another BG. I stuck her 5 times and couldn't get a good. drop of blood. The first one was enough but the meter shut off before it got a reading. Now I'm worried her BP may be low. She feels kind of cold when she wakes up but she's better after 5 minutes. And she refused her soupie. she may have eaten kibble. We'll try blood again tomorrow but her toes are so tiny and if she's not gonna bleed when she gets stuck... Her foot is gonna be sore. If I take her to the vet at best I'll pay ~$65 to find out her BG. That will have to wait till at least Monday.

88 actually isn't bad for a ferret with confirmed insu. UncleJoe- next time try "pumping" a toe pad for a few minutes til it is bright red. I find that works better.
